OP do you have pictures, or could you take a few of where/what you did? What ring are you referring to?

Very interesting. Can you explain what ring you are referring to and what does flipping it 180 degrees mean? Thanks for the great post. I'm trying to solve some vibe/shudder issues on my brother's tacoma. He has the take-off and deceleration shudder around 20 mph.

Very good thread. Subscribed. I had a driveline vibration after doing the TSB upgrade and Toytect AAL with OME Nitrochargers. I tried the shim, no luck. Then I tried the OME drop kit carrier bearing drop kit, worked OK, with small vibe left at 55-60MPH.

Of speacial note: THE VIBRATION WENT AWAY A FEW MONTHS LATER AFTER THE SUSPENSION SETTLED.

I have had the TSB packs with Toytec AAL for around 4 years now. No vibe after break in.

I would say so often we are concerned about a small vibration immediately after we install a new spring pack but we dont acutally wait for the springs to pass a break in period. My suggestion is load up the truck with some sandbags and put around 300 pounds in the bed over the axle and then see if it gives you a vibe. If no vibe after it is loaded, then dont worry about it, go hit the trail and give the springs a workout and help them settle down a little. After a few months of abuse, if you still have a vibe, THEN measure the driveline and take corrective action. Now that is not to say if you have a really bad vibe, then of course fix it!

I am upgrading to All Pro Expo Spring Packs this weekend or whenever it stops raining, so will be following this formula since I am sure my geometry will be all wrong. I may need to wait for the beefed taco drop kit since this will likely yeild around 3.5 inches of lift. But Iam going to keep around 400 pounds of sandbags in the bed for a few weeks to help break in these HD springs.

I really want to say this is a great thread and I appreciate all the time and effort put into taking the pain and unknown out of this problem. Thank you to those that have contributed, both by providing a sollution and asking good questions.

Props to the OP. You've sort of cleared up the questions I've been thinking about as I've been going down this path. I just ordered 2.5* shims and I have some CB spacers as well. I'll probably be flipping the CB in the next few days to see what kind of angles I get. I have the TSB leaf pack and an AAL as well.

The part in here with the first 2 angles being equal and the pinion being 0.0 is grabbing my attention. I've been doing a lot of measuring (trying to get the most accurate measurements with sub-par tools), and I think the first shaft (front of CB) is 4.5* and the 2nd shaft is 4.5*, all off of the transfer case as 0.0. The pinion angle is 0.0, this was measured after I installed 2.5* shims.

I have minor takeoff shudder now, and a bit of vibration right around 38mph. My next idea was to flip the CB 180* (raising it), measure and check for vibes, then drop it down a tad using my 3/8" spacers if I need to, still keeping it upside down from the way it came from toyota.

Any thoughts on these angles and the vibes I'm getting?

I flipped the CB 180* and installed 3/8" spacers dropping it back down slightly. This changed the first shaft coming out of the transfer case to 2.2*, the 2nd shaft is now 5.6*, and the pinion is 2.2*. Haven't taken it for a drive yet so I'll post back when I have done that.

Figuring out where these numbers need to be is a bit confusing. If anyone has any input from what I've measured so far, feel free to post or PM.

Took it for a drive, this is by far the best it's ever been. With the way people talk about a driveline shudder, it might be on par or even less than what some folks get with a brand new un-lifted truck - any vibe/shudder is almost non-existant. I've been dealing with it for so long that I can point it out when it happens otherwise I probably wouldn't notice. I had a steering wheel wobble when braking from 70mph to about 60mph, and that seems to all have settled out as well. Time will tell when driving it this week if the short trip I took tells the whole story or not, but I'll probably leave it like this until I have a reason to change it.

Thanks for all the info on here, and for doing the leg work with the angles, etc.

Seems as though the vibes were better, then they are back. So after all this, its not fixed even though the driveline angles look WAY better with the spacer and CB flip. I dont know if the vibes are getting worse, or they are the same and just haven't been fixed.

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how everything could be fine for so long, then after 30k with the lift (only maybe 1.75"), these vibes come up. I finally read a post that related their vibes to the colder weather, and thats about when they started for me too.

The vibes at highway speeds when braking are better/gone. Just takeoff shudder and 25-40mph vibes now. Had the shudder to some degree before, never the 25-40 vibes though.

Also read a post about someone preloading CB by pushing it forward a tad before tightening it down, any truth to that?

Toyota didnt fail at driveline 101....Their trucks drive just fine. You did, by altering the factory pinion angle and wondering why you have a vibration ... Nice job tho by configuring a decent fix without having to reposition your leaf mounts. Hopefully others can follow on this who have the same problem :D

Some people have take off shudder from the get-go, right off the lot.

My truck had take off shudder since day one. I recently added a toytec 1.5" AAL. The ride was a vast improvement over stock and no more bottoming out. However, the shudder got worse. I bought the OME carrier bearing drop kit, but that alone didn't help things. I was pretty close to taking off the AAL and going back to stock until I saw this thread. I bought an angle gauge and tried flipping the carrier bearing and using the OME spacers. This equalized the angles between the two driveshafts. Now my take off shudder is 95-99% gone. It actually has less shudder now than it did stock! Very happy now.

Anyone having driveline vibes, do yourself a favor... Print out the diagram posted in this thread and get an angle gauge. Measure your driveline angles before you start throwing parts at your truck. It will save you a lot of frustration.

Can anyone explain how to flip the carrier bearing? I can't find how to by searching, but quite a few try it...
