I am in Canada (BC), looking at a '12 TRD off road access cab, and locally the price would be 31950 (before tax, etc) - basically take it or leave it. Has anyone else been able to get a substantially better deal than this in Western Canada? Thanks!

Personally, I'll believe it when I see a receipt. Mine was $40,000 out the door slightly used, and that was still less than what they were going for new at the time.

Yeah, but you have a Sport. Everyone knows they have to give those things away...

Reading some of the threads on who paid what at the dealership I find may of the numbers dubious. Either the person doing the buying is one smooth talker, is lying, the salesman is dumb or desperate, or all the above.

I bought a 2010 Access 4x4 SR5 2.7l and paid 3.0 % above invoice plus got the dealer to put on running boards, a bed mat, a cargo net and throw in 6 oil filters and though I got a good deal.

I used Carcostcanada.com to get a report on the dealer cost for the vehicle plus a list of dealers that are more willing to deal. Went in - showed him the report - told him what I wanted to pay and we went from there.

Depending where you are in Canada you can also get a buying service like http://www.apa.ca or http://www.bestpriceexpress.ca/ to do the negotiations for you for a fee.

My 2010 TRD Sport was $42k taxes in out the door... If I was the op, I'd scoop that 2012 up in a heart beat at that price.

OP, try to buy new in the USA through the 'loophole'. Or, shop around in BC...I just interviewed a guy that use to work at the New West Toyota dealership and I asked him if they were discounting new Toyota's.....he said they were for a while now. For the longest time the dealers in BC were not discounting, but I think that has recently changed with the dealers getting desperate for deals.

That's because all the BC dealerships are owned by Jimmy Pattison

Partly....all the dealers met years ago and colluded together...they agreed to not discount any new Toyotas in BC. Technically, I think this is against the law...

Why pay someone to negotiate for you take the price you have and goto other dealers tell them what dealer "A" will do and see what they can do, once dealer "B" gives you a price go back to "A" None of them want a sale to walk out the door. It took me 5 days to get them to the price I wanted.
