Block heater installed

I just installed the OEM block heater on my 2011 Taco and it couldnt have been easier. I had the old style freeze plug type on my T-100 and this was a whole hell of a lot easier and cheaper to install. It's only going to get in the 20's tonight but I'm going to plug it in for a few hours in the morning to test it out.

 

I've seen some of you guys from Florida, when it hits 50 you act like we do when it's 20. LOL

How much was this, I snowboard a lot and am overnight at mountains almost every weekend in the winter, had a BMW last winter and never had any issues but there were a few nights/mornings when I needed to get on the road in -15 below weather.

 

mine starts no issues in tempts below 20. but i do like the idea. put it on a timer at night

I dont remember the cost because I bought it a couple f months back, $50. sounds close. I found a link here and bought it from TRDPARTS4U.

 

The way the Tacoma drinks gas I will stick with the block heater. I used to have to park outside so the wife could park in the garage. I would put the heater on a timer and run it for 2-3 hours. The T-100 always started in the coldest weather but with the block heater it started so much easier. Within a minute the defrost is blowing warm air and the window cleans very easy. Also, I would leave it in defrost mode and convection occurs and the windshield is already defrosting above the vents.

BTW, I have a two car garage now but I will use the heater when I'm at work over night.

 

It was 112 here this summer and I tolerate it pretty good until I have to put my gear on, then it's bake time. LOL

 

As long as I'm moving I'm good in the cold weather. I wear shorts year round at work. I just dont get cold like most people do.

 

I think block heaters and remote starters perform two very different functions.

The block heater warms the engine so it starts easier and with less wear due to thick oil. A side benefit to this is less time before you get heat in the cabin.

Remote start does nothing for helping your engine start, it just make the inside nice and warm/cool for you.

When it's -40, remote start will not help you get your truck going.

Thats the way I have always seen it. BUT, several guys at work have the remote starters and like them so it all depends on what you like.

Years ago I had a 59 Ford PU that had a manual choke. My neighbor had a new early 80's Ford that had an automatic choke. His truck wouldn't start in -0 weather and he got pissed when I came out and worked the manual choke on the old truck and it sputtered & coughed and started. Thank god for the vehicles we have today.

 

mine starts fine to about -30C then she needs the block heater plugged it. giving -27C for tonight
