interior clean up.

So I inherited my mom's 02 tacoma ext. cab. (RIP) a year ago, the interior was never taken car of, and smelled of dog and cigarets . S I paid a local detailer to bomb it and detail it. Did a great job the smell was gone and so was most of the hair. For this first year I took care of all the mainteance that was due, (oil filters, plus, blets, water pump timing belts, axle wrap mod, flushes etc) Now after a year, I think it's time to clean it up a bit.
The interior carpet is shot and in all the nooks and crannies there is still dog hair. So should I
A. remove all the carpet and replace with fresh new carpet
B. Remove all the carpet and replace with fresh new Vinyl flooring
C. Remove all the carpet and replace with fresh new herculiner (did this in a jeep I used to have)
D. Open to other options?
She also needs some body work, but I think i'll wait tell last to do that and paint the whole truck at the same time, with color matching fenders and grille Thoughts

 

I like carpet- but what do you do with the truck??

 

I drive the truck to and from work and to and from trail head (Mountain Biker) travel and or family commuting is done in our mini van . No serious off except dirt roads every once in a while for hiking and biking..

 

I'd go carpet unless you do deep water crossings or spend a lot of time in mud where you'll be tracking it into the cab. Carpet is a great sound deadener also.

 

Yes i'm leaning towards carpet my only concern is grease tracking into the carpet, from work.

Carpet with all weather set ins. That way you can take them out, wash them and still have carpet on the rest of the interior.

Try JC Whitney or Autoanything. I'm pretty sure JCW sells stuff like that but I'm not sure of the quality since I've never done something like that.

 

If this is a concern get good mats that can get taken out and cleaned without too much extra work (like having to remove a vinyl floor).

 

I was thinking about re-carpeting the interior, and then getting vinly mats .
Where is a good place to get quality carpet for a decent price?

 

Check out local upholstery places. My dad had the whole interior of his '87 toy pickup done by a local upholstery guy and it came out great. Cant remember the cost though.

 

I used to have a husky and pound-for-pound he would shed more than any other dog, ever.

To get the hair out of all the nooks get those yellow dish washing gloves and manually brush the hair out of the places with your hands. Then you can either just grab the hair and dispose of it or vacuum it up.

If the hair is woven into the fabric (such as the seats) try using one of those lint rollers along with the rubber gloves.

Lastly, if there is still any remnants of smells (eg the cigarettes) place a medium size bowl full of white distilled vinegar - open with no lid - in the truck and leave it in there overnight with the windows rolled up. Preferably on a warm day/night. The vinegar will pull the smell from the upholstery and fabrics.

 

I'll try that vinegar trick next summer, My carpet is also worn, kind of needs to be replaced.. Thanks for the tricks.

 

A. remove all the carpet and replace with fresh new carpet - THIS is by-far the best looking and easiest option and will help you if you ever resell it. You can get entire carpet kits specific to your truck for around $120-$150. Plus you can get some aftermarket all weather mats pretty cheap.

B. Remove all the carpet and replace with fresh new Vinyl flooring - I had vinyl on an old truck, and although I liked it as far as easy clean-up, it made the truck look like a cheap utility truck. Plus the floors got cold in the winter.

C. Remove all the carpet and replace with fresh new herculiner (did this in a jeep I used to have) - I would have to say unless the truck is used majority of the time to go mudding, rock crawler, or farm truck I'd steer away from this option as the floor pan is not smooth and you'd have to fill in the holes and gaps before you could drop a bed-liner spray. LOTS of work.

 

Remove the carpet and clean it with a power washer. Let it dry and reinstall. It will look almost brand new. As long as you have the seats out clean them as well. Use Folex which can be bought at Home Depot.

I would also invest in a nice set of floor mats after the carpet is cleaned.

 

op i got a carpet from stockinteriors.com shipped to me along some extra insulation that i added for about 180. I love the carpet they will send color chips to either match your current color or see if you like a color. carpet has had drink spilled on it(girls) and it comes out eaily with warm water. I highly recommend.

glad to help biggest thing is when you get it unroll the carpet and let it sit and warm up and it will regain its shape of the floor pan

I started to pull the carpet out, and realized it was a big ordeal, So I put things back together and decided to wait tell spring when it warms up a little.. lot of work to take that carpet out.
