Uhm, yeah so if using the wrong size wire caused a fire that you have seen then it was because whatever genius did the install didn't put a fuse by the battery. Doesn't matter how overloaded a piece of wire is the fuse will always blow before there is fire.

Perhaps I am. The thing is that the sound was always clean. I had no problems with that. After testing it yesterday while with friends, I noticed that it is in fact weaker now. However, it seems like it is sounding fine. Amp did not cut off after playing for a while quite loudly. Guess it is fixed.

Perhaps in this context, but not true in general - what if I have a 100Amp fuse running on 16 gauge wire and connect that wire to something trying to draw say 75 amps. That wire will burn without blowing the fuse.

And if it's in a bundle...I once had the time consuming and difficult job of replacing a Corvette dash harness because the owner had swapped out the cigarette lighter fuse to something that wouldn't blow when he powered up his aftermarket stereo amp.

Maybe cuz no one feels the need to flaunt the size of their pe..... stereo system.

Personally, I could care less how how "powerful" something is.... I'd rather have good sound....

    This..

To the OP, only a couple amps built can handle 2ohm bridged (1ohm Stereo).Alpine isnt one of them Haha. I ran 1/0GA wire though out my system. Did I need it nope, but it looks cool. Your fine with 4ga.

Alt to battery battery to frame battery to engine block. Cheap and easy electrical upgrade

A good idea but would in no way help the problem he was having, his amp was trying to run a load it was not designed for.

The big three will not help you run 1ohm stereo.. but the big three is a good upgrade. I alway recomend that before running a capacitor.

I laugh at capacitors... Had three different manufacturers come in over 7 yrs installing and all of them said that a capacitor about the biggest waste of space in a stereo setup... That they only sell them cuz the markup was so high.

Big 3 upgrade though, I totally agree with. As soon as I find some new battery terminals I'll be doing it myself (hopefully much much sooner than later)

I have 20' of 0 gauge wire for sale in red if your interested, also have a few feet of black 0 gauge wire for grounds. PM me if interested.

Like someone else pointed out, 4 gauge wire is likely not large enought for that system. You did not mention what brand of wire you're actually using either. Cheap wire brands use alluminum with thicker insulation, so a 4 gauge wire is actually more like a 8 gauge wire. More current is always better, even if that's not the main problem. I use JL 2 gauge wire for 550 watts (2 amps, 250/1 and 300/4)

If you weren't so far away, and if I didn't have connections to get it locally, I'd take it off your hands...

As for your "More current is always better" statement, I would modify that to "MORE CAPACITY is always better", since the wire is supplying the capacity to handle more current, not supplying the current itself.

Also, @Hooked - did you see my last post in the remote starter thread? :)
