    I just did a restoration where a single rat got into the floor system of a house and enlarged all the holes through the joists where the wires and pipes ran so he could fit through .

    The people didn't know he was in there till he chewed a water line and caused a flood , while we were fixing that we discovered almost every wire had been chewed to bare conductors .

    We had to drop all the drywall ceilings and rewire the entire basement , about a $20k job all in .

    There insurance only covered the water damage from the pipe

    Jeebus. So my cat is earning his keep. He's killed 3 rats (that I know of) since we got him in April, and he had one cornered up under the eaves for hours a couple months ago.
