I called the dealership and made and appointment to get the tailgate replaced... Also getting the rear leaf springs replaced at the same time on a different TSB..

I just bought a 2005 TRD 2wd a couple weeks ago. It has 59k miles but is Toyota certified and has the 3mo/3kmi comprehensive warranty. I wonder if the dealer would honor the TSB?

So i called my local dealership to get the tsb performed and the guy I talked to tells me to bring it down and upon an inspection they may do it. So i called up the 1-800 number, talk to a knowledgeable, nice person, and they give me a case number, and tells me to go down there and speak with them. He states that i should say "harsh ride" and that I know of the tsb while giving my case number. So I'm about to go down there to do just that. He didn't mention to me that he would call down there for me. Oh well...

If you have a case number Toyota will contact either the Service Manager or the Customer Relations Manager with your concerns via email. Then after the inspection your dealership will need to contact Toyota to discuss there findings before the case can be closed. good luck

Truck's in service date was 5/05 so warranty expired 5/08. TSB030508 published 9/08. complained to local dealer 01/09 who agreed to supply parts ($1621.46 retail) but charged me $750 for install labor. Wrote to the folks in Torrence at the "experience center" for reimbursement for labor and was denied.

Well, technically, the TSB was published long before that. The 9/08 issue was just a revision.

I just had both TSB's (Tailgate and leaf springs done) at 36,450 miles... No problem... I mentioned to the Customer relations department that I had complained about it previously at my 30K and 35K service and that the service personell had not even acknowledged what I said.

I am getting this service done tomorrow at Boch Toyota in Norwood, MA. I went in today with a printout of the .pdf and told them that the truck was bottoming out when I went up to VT for a ski trip. He said they'll do it but "the truck is going to ride like an f-350" I told them that I didn't care and to go ahead with the work. I will post a review with pics of how the truck handles as soon as I get it back. Can't wait.

Thank you for those of you that dug this document up and posted it-

Actually the ride isn't that much stiffer, it definately feels like it can support more weight than before.. It rides more like an F-150, not a 350...

But the second Gen trucks are as big as the older Tundras were and I like the bigger truck feel. More interior space than the older ones.

The biggest problem is that the rear end is higher now and I am remedying that with Strut extension spacers. If you are bottoming out, get the TSB work done..

I'm getting mine done tomorrow. I brought my truck down to the dealership to have it inspected today, and 2 and a half hours later they notify me that they will perform the tsb. They're ordering the parts today and it should be in tomorrow.

btw, I went to Kearny Mesa Toyota for those of you in San Diego. Not much of a hassle.

Yea they tried to tell me that my truck was going to ride rougher too. I think they were trying to talk me out of it. But I told them I bought this truck to haul stuff and I'd rater have a rougher unloaded ride than a totally crappy loaded ride. T tell you the truth though the ride does not feel rougher to me. Firmer, yes, rougher, not really. 100% worth it though.

I bought my "truck" to be used as just that... The springs they installed at the factory severely limited the ability to haul safely... The new springs can now support (2) dirt bikes and gear and allow me to tow a trailer.. I am happy now... I was seriously going to have to spend money on an AAL or new springs.. I am grateful that the factory saw fit to replace them

I have a 2009 Tacoma, reg. cab, 4x2, automatic. Currently has 3 rear springs/side. Should I be looking into upgrading to 4 springs? Does this TSB apply to my situation? Anyone with this type vehicle have this done?

If you haven't read, many with the 3-leaf pack have had problems while hauling mid-sized loads or more (400lbs+). The back end bottoms out and just feels sloppy on the road. The truck is rated to carry 1350lbs. Even if you haven't had the problem, you will when you haul something.

Please call Toyota and report a "harsh ride when the bed is loaded. It is very easy to do and only takes a couple minutes. They will build a "case" for you and it will help your fight to get the work completed. Most dealers are not doing it on the 2009s. There is no follow up required with Toyota...you are just reporting the issue to help their development.

The more people that call it in and report a problem, the sooner the 2009's will be added to the TSB.

^^^^^^^very good advice V!! But some have been fortunate to get the dealer to do the TSB on the '09s. So after an owner of an '09 makes that call, kindly and level headed, go to your dealer with the TSB and ask to have it done. They may do it, but as of now are not obligated.:)
