Does this sound right? Alignment issue with aftermarket UCA's

Recently did 5100/Eibach setup with a 1/2" top plate spacer. Bought the CST billet UCA's (same as Icon) and the alignment shop says I'm out of adjustment and can't get my caster any better than 1.9 on the drivers side but manages to get 2.8 on the passenger side . Seemed odd to me, I just want to see if anyone else has a similar issue. And yes the alignment shop did kinda muck the bottom of my brand new UCA's

 

have them fix, or pay for new ucas if they fucked them up, and there shouldnt be a reason they cant get it in spec, take it somewhere else.

 

post up the alignment sheet and photos of the position of your eccentric alignment cams.

 

Doesn't sound right at all. Did you have the alignment done at a dedicated alignment shop? Or was it a chain like Firestone? I don't trust the latter. Before I got my aftermarket ucas I had my truck aligned... Took it to firestone first and they couldn't even get it close. Then I took it to a real alignment specialist and he got it in spec easily.

It is a dedicated alignment shop. I have a slammed G37 on coilovers and he did that one in less than an hour. He had my truck all day and still couldn't get it right. It's pulling to one side now too. Probably because of the difference in caster. I'll have to try somebody else.

Have the the same issue with the Tacoma. I didn't have much lift on the coilovers when I did the alignment and he couldn't get it anywhere near spec. The truck had a lot of wander on the road too. I've since raised the front and it feels way more stable. I haven't had it realigned yet since I'm waiting on the bumpers to show up for final ride hight adjustments.

 

Yep, weird. There are four eccentrics - you only showed one and didn't tell us which on it is. But it's a bit odd that the one you showed us is more or less centered, rather than close to maxed out.

Check your coilover assemblies and make sure the 5100 spring perch is set correctly on both sides, and that your lift height is roughly the same (within 1/4") from hub (not ground) to fender left to right.

 

Are the icon uca designed to correct alignment? I didn't think they were but not sure.

 

All he showed me was the heim joints that we're maxed out and the pictured adjustment. I've only had the truck a few weeks so I'm not familiar where the other three are. Checked the perches and they're both at the second notch .85

 

When I had my truck aligned with Icon UCAs the shop said it was the toughest suspension adjustment they had ever seen. I will try and remember to post my results later.

 

Are you running your swaybar?

 

Yes. I didn't purchase the the drop bracket either.

 

Not sure if the drop bracket would have an effect on alignment but it's a good idea to buy one anyway. A proper shop should be able to get it in spec. It took a while for me to find a competent shop and it turned out to be a place that specializes in lifted 'street' trucks. There's gotta be a similar offroad shop near you that can help. When I finally got mine situated I had to chop the cab mounts because the 285s rubbed like crazy after the castor was in spec.

 

loose the sway bar you dont need it trust me...and yes i drive 70+ miles a day on highway at 80mph and wheel pretty damn hard and never drive nice...trucks way smoother and nicer to drive without swaybar....may help may not...good luck either way

 

sway bar wont effect alignment. Did they try adjusting the uppers? Those don't look maxed out to me

 

He said (and it looks like) the heim joints on the UCA's are maxed on the one side. Every time he threaded the heim out on the opposing side to get more castor the camber started going too positive. I don't really speak alignment though but from he said I could see where he was coming from. I just feel like there should be combination of adjustments between the OE adjustments and the UCA adjustments to get it perfect. From what I understood the heim joints are supposed to more versatile?

 

lol cst? those look like icon's or some kind of major rip off of the icon control arms.

 

You haven't heard of CST??? CST doesn't do much for Toyota's but their GM kits are superior to any I've seen. Had the 9/11 kit on my company truck and they hooked me up with these. I believe they partnered up with Icon for the UCA just like donahoe looks to have done the same thing.
