4wd issue, any ideas?

    Ok so here is the low down!

    My 2011 tacoma had the 4wd light come on and continually flash. I used the 4wd about 4-5 days before this happened. I was driving down the road in 2wd when all of a sudden the 4wd indicator started flashing. The 4wd control knob does nothing and the truck will not engage in 4wd at all...or so I thought:cool:.

    If I turn the ignition off, turn the 4wd selector to 4wd, then turn the ignition on it engages into 4high only. It will not go into 4low at all, it will disengage and go back to 2wd, but the light flashes continually again. after selecting 2wd it will not engage back in to 4wd unless i repeat the above mentioned steps:rolleyes:

    Any ideas??? Dealers are extremely reluctant to work on my truck do to the MAJOR modifications. lol (3" lift, winch and bumper:eek:)

    It is under warranty... TAKE IT BACK and don't mess with anything on a new truck that isn't your fault.

    Just fyi: to get into and out of L4, you do need to stop and put the tranny into N (neutral) and not P (park). SEE the info card in you sun visor.

    lol I know how to get the truck out of 4wd, and I know how to transfer between 4lo and 4hi. The light came on while driving down the freeway without any use of the 4wd.

    I would have it flatbed'ed to a dealership. Did you get the 24hr roadside assistance when you bought it?

    I did get the 24hr roadside assistance. Problem is, every time it goes to the dealer they want to blame the lift, or tire's, or locker...etc.

    Tell them to prove it. Is there another dealership close by? I would try a different dealer if that is the case. Or just call Toyota Corporate and have them straighten it out.

    They have to prove that part- I don't know what possible effect a lift and bumper could have on the 4WD system.

    Light randomly coming on and the switch not working right isn't an issue with the 4WD mechanism....so even a locker isn't a good reason to turn down warranty coverage point blank.

    And it's still incumbent on the dealer to prove that a modification caused the malfunction. If they won't even work on it-They can't possibly prove anything.
