    Not that it helps your situation but the factory-sponsored Tacoma racing the Baja 1000 had its rear differential fail 90 miles into the race.

    Hopefully that'll get corporate to start looking into this issue that's been around since 2005.

    so was it fixed under warrenty?

    side note..i have broken 3 ring and pinions since i have had my taco. and luckily for me they all broke while on the highway and not on the trail. my last one broke while i was backing out of my driveway..that time it was the actual pinion gear, sucks ass for sure.

    since i re-geared to 4.56 gears the repairs are my responsibility. but, had i had stock gears i would make sure Toyota would pay for the entire cost of the bill to include towing cost.

    Nope, all came out of pocket. Toyota voided my warrenty because i had gotten it taken apart at four wheel parts to find out what happened. Regeared to 4.56 aswell.

    That is some hilarious shit.

    These damn ring gears are a joke in the e-locked rear ends. It's ironic...Toyota puts obvious money into the Tundra rear end, shitting out one of the largest ring/pinion setups ever to go into a half-ton.

    5,600lbs or so is the curb weight of the current Tundra...10.25" ring gear.

    4400lbs or so is the curb weight of the current Tacoma...8" ring gear.

    Gee Ma...wonder which one is underbuilt for its application? Granted there are power differences in the drive train, but I guarantee Tacomas, with their reputation as durable 4x4s, see more stress than Tundras in activities that put the R+P at risk.

    Yeah but thats only e-locker setup. The standard Tacomas (8.4) are fine and have no problems. I still believe there is not enough material to hold the teeth on e-locked R&P. If you compare that ring to 8.4 one there is big difference. and Toyota made things worst by going to 3.73. Thats worst combination ever.

    Wow thats a epic fail by Service Dept. I would say call Toyota but considering that they told few people to GTFO even so their trucks failed on the street there is probably small chance of getting any where with complains.
