Why not just drive and see him in person? Better to waste a hundred bucks in gas to find out its a scam then to spend $10k and find out.

do not do this! the same thing happened to me (buyer said the exact same thing that she had an ear infection and was not allowed to talk on the phone) when i was tryin to sell my mud flaps for $120 on craigslist a lady said the same thing and we agreed on a price and i got what looked like a legit ass cashiers check in the mail for $1,625 and i was told to send back the remaining balance because the excess was for shipping. well what happens is you send them money back but then the check bounces and your fucked because they want to do it through Western Union and the money can be picked up at any location so it is virtually untraceable. this has been happening a lot lately on CL. google search it man it's a huge scam

not trying to be a dick, but why ask for our advice is you don't wanna take it. I am on craigslist all the time tacomas seem to be a very popular choice for scammers. I could go on the cleveland craigslist and find ten different people with tacomas trying to scam people. Every time I have tried to deal with them they suggest going through "ebay" that way we are both protected. Bullshit! Many will tell you they are overseas or out of the country as well. Very common.

If in the event it is real, I would ask for the Vin, actual pics of the vin, ALL the sellers information and so forth.

However, I would be willing to bet its a scam. Just my .02

No one insists on ebay, their fees are too high. If anything, legit ebay people would rather sell the vehicle in person to avoid the fees.
