what i find interesting, is that if we were going by the TW election polls, McCain would have won by a landslide. it seems we have way more republican/conservatives on here than dems. but this poll is about 50/50. which means, that in a predominantly conservative site, the legalization race is a close one, which means alot of conservatives (at least on this site) want to see it legalized. i wonder how this poll would look if every american voted. sorry, thats just the sociologist part of me talking out loud (taht was my minor)

hate to say it but x3.

taht kind of statement hurts the "pro pot" argument

i'd say less than half my friends know. i typically use it right before i go to bed. i've been able to stop taking my ambien and valium which i was useing for my sleep problems. both of those mess with my memory, and i have seen a huge improvement in my memory sense i have stopped taking them. although i have a possible drug test coming up so i am on hiatus for the moment

the fact that so many people do smoke and no one around them has any idea is evidence of how harmless it CAN be

im not saying im better than anyone else and not one of you folks who have admitted to smoking have i crucified or anything of the sort...if you chose to smoke then whatever...but you have to understand that RIGHT NOW its illegal...and you have to be prepared for those consequences...and i have agreed that alcohol and tobacco are both also bad for you and admitted to using them...but ive also explained that i do not use them illegally. I do not drink enough to be publicly intoxicated...i dont drink while im impaired...and when i do drink...i dont get hammered...i dont disrespect ANYONE...i dont get into fights...and i most certainly do NOT drive drunk

i dont think graduating to smoking while you drink from just drinking is the same as going from weed to coke to meth...

pure t bull and i'd have to agree that this is the most inane thing ive read in these pot threads

i dont think it'd be all that "interesting" I honestly think you'd see at least 65-70% in favor of decriminalization

Again though, i want to make sure my stance is clear

I'm against pot because CURRENTLY its illegal.

I chose the path I'm on because of where I've been and what i've seen...I dont think its a healthy or wise choice to use any substance - narcotics/alcohol/tobacco/caffeine/whatever...i am however, willing to admit that i do use alcohol and tobacco...not every day...and not often...but i do them...and im not condemning people for making their own choices...but rather for not obeying the laws we currently have in place in this country.

Would i be upset or mad if tobacco and alcohol were made illegal here? nope

Would i be mad if pot was made legal?
    nope

true.... but that was only an example of people trying things when drunk that they wouldn't normally do sober

there are plenty of people that don't normally do drugs unless they are out partying and drinking

so... it is very plausible that drinking could lead to other party drugs i.e. ecstasy > coke > meth.... etc.

normally you wouldn't try coke but you were drunk at a party and everyone else was doing it so you tried it and liked it and now do it all the time at parties then started trying at parties without being drunk.... now you're a coke head

    BEER IS A GATEWAY DRUG!!!!

tiger... just trying to make a point, i think for the most part we agree on this topic - not saying alcohol should be banned but you can't make an argument for keeping pot illegal without grouping alcohol into it too

I agree. I don't smoke nor do I condone it, but I've never known anyone who didn't smoke because it was illegal. If they're wanna smoke they're gonna smoke, regardless of whether it's illegal or not. So why not just legalize it and free up the time and money wasted by law enforcement pursuing those with possession of pot. You'd be surprised at how many people you know personally smoke, at least I have been. It's not difficult to get a hold of by any means. :)

I would just like to put my $.02 in. For starters the laced pot argument, I have never seen laced pot, never heard of anyone in my area having any. The reason people lace pot is to make it addictive to kids. Drug dealers want to get the kids hooked, not necessarily on pot, but on the drugs they lace it with, usually coke or meth. Good growers grow good pot, they don't lace it with anything, its flushed very well and clean of chemicals, if it were legalized and you could buy it from a store there would be no more laced weed. Its the bad guys, the coke/meth/crack dealers that lace weed, if the police didn't need to worry about the "good" growers, they could concentrate on the ones selling hard drugs.

As for a gateway drug, other then the possible introduction to the dealers of hard drugs, marijuana isn't really a gateway drug. I don't see why anyone would smoke a joint then go do a line or 2, just doesn't make any sense. One gets you down the other gets you up. More then likely alcohol is the gateway drug, since booze and coke go hand in hand. People may have smoked marijuana before, and then gone onto harder drugs, but more then likely its through the booze and not because of the pot.

As for the medicinal value of marijuana, there are now over 17,000 research papers on the subject from all corners of the globe. However the real truth can be found in the lives of the people who have medical cards, and are able to live their lives without pain and suffering because of this drug.
