Weak windshield sprayer?

Hi,

New here. Recently got an 06 Reg cab 4x4 sr5. I love it! (had a 96 taco before that, and an 84 before that)

My windshield washers are very weak. Just wondering if this is normal for the 2nd gen taco, or if mine has some sort of problem. I have -40 F fluid in the reservoir, so I don't think freezing is the problem. The spray comes up to maybe 1/4th height on the windshield, and it takes a few wipes of the blades to even get the whole thing wet. Any thoughts?

I drilled an extra hole in the lid of the reservoir, thinking that perhaps it was pulling a vacuum, but that has not helped the problem.

 

yeah, i was wondering about that. what is a good way to clean those little bastards? I've heard that using a pin or similar is "not advised"

 

+1 Maybe put a little vinegar or jewelry cleaner in there to flush out some possible corrosion. Your nozzles should spray the entire windshield with authority.

 

that's a good idea...i will try that and see if it helps. I'm a little wary of sticking a pin in there

 

x3 especially if the truck used to get waxed alot it can get in there and clog it up.

 

Mine had clogged tubes. I took an air compresser and blew out the tubes and they worked perfectly after that.

 

Wonder if it's feasible to mount a more powerful pump, like those used in European headlight washers?

 

Just a thought, they do come out of the hood with a bit o' work, but can you soak them in a solution like CLR, which removes everything from calcium, rust lime deposits, or like they said above, compressed air would work, I just wish they were more of a mist rather than a jet of water like on my 1999, hmmm, maybe I need to do some work on mine.......

Actually, if you examine the washer hose where it travels under the hood, but still in the engine compartment just below the windshield. You will probably see the point of contact where the hood gasket and the engine compartment gasket both compress the washer hose when your hood is closed. It's getting pinched off. Simple fix; cut a channel in the rubber gasket the width of the washer hose in the gasket right below it. Now the washer hose will sit in that channel and not get compressed when the hood is closed. I found this fix for a guy I work with that was complaining of the same thing and noticed that when we were looking at it. I've passed that tip on to six other guys I work with. All are happy now.

for the win! i looked at the hose at this point and it was totally mashed-- you could also see it's imprint in the hood gasket. I cut out a little channel for it and it is 100x better. thanks! i'll post some pictures of it later if anybody is confused.

I'm gonna have to check this out. Wasn't sure why some days would be awesome spray mode and others are just wet the whistle. Thanks for the tip!

 

I'm gonna have to take a look at this. On the way to work this morning I tried to wash the road spray off and I barely saw a trickle come out of the driver side nozzle. Passenger side didn't do anything. Stopped for gas and checked the reservoir-half full. I did have my hood up this weekend while replacing my front bumper, I'll bet the hose got crimped somewhere. Hopefully its not the pump.

 

I've got the same weak spray issue.... Thanx a heap guys... I'll check out the hoses tomorrow... sounds like mine is likely squashed also... I think I'd rather run the squirter hose thru a piece of stronger plastic hose than cut my weather stripping, but I'll see if I have that problem and report back tomorrow.....

Hey, I forgot to report back on this issue.... Sorry guys.

My washer hose was squished where it goes over the weatherstripping and then on into the hood and squirter nozzles.... I just placed a real hard piece of plastic tubing over the rubber hose at that location and all is well again...

An old thread, but very timely information for me, thank you so much! I just fixed my washers on my "new to me" 2005 Tacoma, used a stiff piece of pipe as the previous poster did.
