Recently bought a used 05 Tacoma. Noticed coolant level is below low in the reservoir. I want to add some coolant to at least bring it up to the low mark. Anybody have an opinion on whether it is ok to add a little Prestone Dex-Cool (orange) that I have lying around?

    Thanks

I have read mixed results from mixing dex-cool in late model Tacomas. I truly like to stay away from the dealer as much as possible, but when it comes to coolant I like to use the recommended genuine Toyota coolant(the pink stuff). I'm sure a few others will chime in with their opinions.

Do NOT mix dexcool with normal coolant. It will gum up the works!

Thanks for the responses. I had some dex-cool from my old Suburban and thought it looked close in color so why not. Guess I'll wait till I can get the genuine stuff.

    Thanks again.

I believe I read in the manual not to use Dex-coolant.
