PLEASE HELP, Question about fog light wiring

I recently installed fog lights behind my grill however they seem to be not as bright. When I have only one fog light plugged in it gets really bright but when i have both of them plugged in you can hardly see them. Does anyone have any idea why this is? I am no electrician and just followed what the manual said.

are they wired in parallel, or wired in Series?

 

Make sure both lights have good grounds.

 

I got mine at auto-zone (Pilot Performance Lighting PL-2202C) and the way i wired them was i took the red cable from the battery to the switch, then i got the white and black wire from the lights to the switch leaving the black connected to the side of the truck (for ground). however for some reason when i disconnect one the other is brighter and when i connect both you can barely see them at night

 

There's three wires? Usually only two as far as I know

 

yea for some reason there is the red wire that goes to the switch and the white and black one that goes from the lights to the switch. the white one goes to the switch and the black one is for grown. but i still dont know why it gets dimmer when i plug in both

 

What size wire? And how many watt's are the lights

I had to draw it out because (not to sound dumb or anything) i have no
idea what does having them wired in parallel or wired in series mean.

 

Ill have to check that out but i just used the wires that came stock in the box

 

That extra wire on teh switch is probably for illumination.

Your drawing is parallel and correct except you forgot a fuse by the battery.

Parallel adds currents. If each of 3 lights uses 5 amps you need 15 total.
Series adds divides voltages. If each of 3 lights needs 12 volts you need 36V to power them and in one burns out they all go out.

 

I wonder why you can barely see the lights at night. I even tried switching the light bulbs to the all white.

 

i just wired up some fogs and i did it pretty much the same as you did except i wired the grounds coming from the lights to the ground terminal on the switch then added a wire from that terminal to the truck

 

Oh ok sweet, they little black box next to the batter on the wire is suppose to be the fuse LOL told you i wasnt an artist but do you happen to know what i should do to fix the problem?

 

by any chance can you draw it out? I understand it better when i see a picture. I might try this to see if it solves the problem i am having with mine being really dimmed out

 

Are your grounds actually spliced like that and then one wire goes to the body?

 

Is the switch getting hot when they Are on it just might not be able to pass enough current through, with fog lights even the ones that don't come with one it is always a good ideal to use a relay that way you don't have all the power the lights draw passing through a 2.00 rocker switch
