hi, everyone. Im thinking about selling my 09 taco 4x4 6speed sr5. I dont like thetransmission and i would like to get an automatic. I would like your imput and opinions on what you think is a better quality buy. ive been looking around at 04 double cabs TRD that have 80000 miles selling for 17000$ is it worth paying this much money for an older truck? or would i just be better off buying a 2008 or 2009 ?.. i feel like the older models are unbeatable, but i dont wanna be missing out on something if its better. any imput/opinions/questions welcome! thanks for ur time.

There's not enough bandwidth for what's happening.
    Personal preference, but ...

I like 1st gens. I had a 95 that I sent down the road. I looked hard for an 04 ext cab. Couldn't find one around here. Used Tacomas go fast (I sold my 95 in less than 15 minutes from posting it and bought my 05 the same morning it posted).

    I found an 03 with 85k miles - $16,000 firm ... passed.

I like the bigger engine since I tow a trailer frequently for work. I like the access doors for the ext cab.

Other than that ... 1st gens rule IMO.

You always see guys talking about how they switched to a 2nd Gen and miss the 1st Gen more.

Look for the right truck for you. I think the interior of the 2nd gen would be more comfortable, but I wouldn't trade my 1st gen in for a 2nd gen. A 4x4 1st Gen is great truck.

    I have owned 1 1st gen, and 2 2nd gens and I kick my a*s for selling my 04 1st gen every time I see a 1st gen.
Personally, I think the 1st gen trucks are proportioned better. I feel like the 2nd gens are "clumsy" to drive and just a tad too big compared to my 04. I had 6cy 04. TRD off road, 4x4, and now have 2.7l 4x4, non-TRD, (base), and I get same gas mileage I got on my04. If they sold both sizes brand new, I would not even look at the 2nd gens; I'd grab a 1st gen in a heart beat.
Again, just my personal preference so take it for what it is worth.

ive owned a 2001 Tacoma and now my 2010 Tacoma. Its honestly preference. I wish I still had my 2001 as well. I wanted a 4x4 tacoma and I liked the look and ride of the new tacomas so I traded my little 2wd 4cyl 2001 for a 4x4 v6 2010.. now gas mileage, i wish i had my 2001 4cyl still haha

my opinion the 80's are, one of my friends said the body would rust off from around the motor before that motor would give up.... but i think any of the older ones, basically the 1st gens... anything new you always have them cutting corners more and more on things. Cars and trucks are not built like they use to be in my opinion
