Never loaded motorcycles on a truck before and I was wondering what the recommended procedure is. I know the forks have to be compressed some and the straps attach to the handlebars on both sides.

Just don't know if I should keep the kick stand down and if I do, will there be any damage or nothing to worry about.

    Thanks!

id keep it up... i do see a benifit of it being down but ive have my bike catch air from on on bumps and everything even bounced the rear tire onto the side of the bed, like where the plastic is on the rear fender) and have never had it fall out.

I would always keep mine up. Never had a problem. Down leaves less room for gear and what not.

I have always kept them up just because I bent the hell out of one when driving down a dirt road. Strap the handlebars but dont compress the shocks to much just enough to were they are snug and there is not enough play for it to come loose. Also since my tailgate wont go up with my bikes in there i will usually run a strap over the swingarm just in case. I know alot of people have there own way but thats how I have always done it and like it.

I dont have a kickstand on my dirt bike and it site up just fine. I strap down both sides of the handle bar and then run another strap through the rear wheel so it doesnt slide back. Its sturdier then you think.;)

Or a friend to hold it until you get around to strapping it down.

I assume your a TwoTwo Motorsports fan??

X3. I use my side stand to support it on one side while I strap down the other side.

I also googled and found pretty much both ways.

My problem is I have 2 dual sport bikes but I don't have any tie downs on the center of the bed.

I bought 2 sets of the Toyota bed tie downs, the ones you have to drill holes in the bed, but only installed them on both sides of the front of the bed.

Not sure where to drill a hole in the center front floor area of the bed.

Have you seen the bed bolt bed tie down mod thread?

On my dualsport I strap it upright with a brace in the front fork (to stop compression); the street bike I use the kickstand, but I have slightly more tension on the right side so it's not as likely to bang into the bed (heavier bike). I also use two rear straps pulling back and down. If you have to slam on brakes or hit something you really don't want that thing coming over the top of the truck. I bent a set of forks on an old Honda I used to have when I rear ended someone years ago in a rainstorm and didn't have the rear of the bike secured against forward travel. On my trailer I use a wheel chock(s) with the kickstands up; they make ones for use in the back of trucks too.

Yeah, read through that one, just never bought the parts needed. Eventually I'll have to do it though.
