Meeting her dad for the first time tomorrow...

Like the title says.

Background: Met this girl 6 weeks ago in my college class due to working on a project together in a group. Been talking to her ever since. We have hung out a lot and we both know that we like each other a lot. Super easy to talk to, pretty girl, same sense of humor, and really down to earth and caring. This girl is awesome, not boyfriend girlfriend yet because I want to meet her family first and have her meet my family before I make her my girlfriend.

So tomorrow I got invited to her house to have dinner and hang out and meet her mom and dad along with her 16 year old brother. Really nervous about this cause I want to make a good impression on them. Any pointers? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

*Oh and did I mention that her dad drives an F150?

UPDATE 11/25/11

So I just got back from her house right now, and thought I'd let you guys know how it went...

It went awesome. I asked her before to ask her mom if she wanted me to bring anything over and she said no but that I was sweet for asking. Then I showed up and met her dogs, and met her dad and shook his hand firmly. Met her mom again (I'd seen her briefly one time before) and said hi again. As we were waiting for the meat to cook, we were sitting down outside talking, and the dad asked if I was thirsty. Offered me soda, water, and even beer haha. We all talked about various topics like their house, her mom's cars, school, their jobs, and even our favorite comedians. I offered if they needed help with setting up or anything before dinner, and they said no but thanks. At the dinner table we ate good food, talked more and had some great conversation, and some good laughs in there as well. After we were done, I took my girl's plate cause she was done too, but the dad and mom weren't done so I just placed them near the sink. I had offered to help clean the dishes but the dad said no but thank you. So then they told us to go and do whatever we want, and she wanted to watch a movie in her back entertainment room so we went there. The dad offered me more soda and beer before retiring to his room. He came into the room and I got up from the sofa and shook his hand and he said it was a pleasure meeting me before saying good night. And from there me and my girl enjoyed a night of watching movies and cuddling.

Her parents were super chill, and were really nice people with a good sense of humor. I think I made a great first impression

UPDATE 11/30!!!

So I am finally back after not posting for a little!

So I had her come down here after our classes today, got back to my place at around 12:40ish in the afternoon. Started off with meeting my mom and my sister, and they were really friendly with my girl. Showed my girl around the house, she really like it, and we sat down and cuddled and watched some Friends on TV for a little, then she wanted to play some Wii so we did that (kicked butt on Mario Kart Wii hehe ). Then I took her downtown and we walked around, showed her some shops, and walked on the pier. After hanging around there for a bit, I took her to get BJ's downtown. Got good food, had good conversation at dinner. This whole time we were being super couply, holding hands, giving small kisses to each other, arm around each other sort of thing. I paid for her dinner (of course!) and we went back to my place. She wanted to play Guitar Hero when we got back so we did that for a while, then she met my dad when he got to my house, and we all along with my mom talked and hung out in the family room. The rest of the night consisted of hanging out at my house, her and my mom talking and having a good time, and then laying down and cuddling while watching some Dane Cook comedy skits. Then I walked her out to her car, and we were holding hands and kissed good night. She later calls me when she gets back to her place and says that she had a really good time out here and that she wishes she could do that all the time. She was calling me babe and baby a lot today, and on the phone she was just so excited and happy. My mom really liked her a lot, and told me that, so I was definitely glad about that. I told her my whole family really liked her, and she was really glad. Then started to try to make plans for Christmas break for her to come down and meet my friends and vice versa, very exciting! She is really stoked to meet my friends, she has been wanting to for a minute now.

So that is the latest that is happening with that. Really good progress so far, I'm glad that everything went smooth today. Really do like this girl, she is a special one

So I haven't posted any updates in here for a while... Sorry for the slacking!

But I asked her to be my girlfriend a couple days before Christmas, and she said yes! Since then we have been hanging out and tonight were going out on another date I'm so happy with her, she is awesome and special. It took me almost 3 months before making her my girlfriend, but it was well worth the wait. Thanks to all you guys for all your support and advice!

GL. and if they bring out a gun don’t shit you’r pants and run. lol i had a girls dad do that when i picked her up. he was cleaning a 12G. i told him about some better stuff to clean with. and we talked guns for a few min. other than that just be cool. go acted wired and shit or nervous!


edit: her dad still likes me and talked to me when he saw me getting gas this summer. asked me how i was and stuff. she don’t like me or hardly talk to me anymore.

 

Yeah she told me he's old school American guy, really conservative dude and that he can be strict. That's what is freaky.

if you like guns, start a conversation about them, if he knows a lot more than you, be eager to learn, I know i have done that with friends parents and they liked me right off

shake her moms and dads hand when you first meet them, make sure your hand shake is firm! if its not, he probably wont like you.

 

Yeah I definitely don't know anything about guns other than the fact that they can hurt/kill people...

then my advice is be ready to learn, so that if he has guns, etc..., you dont look like an idiot talking about stuff you dont know anything about, if he starts talking, listen and learn

 

I like how everyone assumes they will be discussing guns while eating dinner.

 

1. Bring something to the house, like dessert or something non alcoholic to drink.
2. Shake hands with the dad, thank the mom for having you and add in a "pleased to meet you".
3. Wait until you are asked to be seated before you sit down after you meet.
4. Ask the mom if she needs help as she is getting dinner ready.
5. Help clear the table.
6. Always answer with a "yes sir, yes ma'am" to the parents.
7. Don't touch the daughter in any way - holding hands or arm around her.

 

I feel like it's going to be interrogation central at the dinner table. Should I just sit back and answer questions that they ask me or should I ask them some questions about themselves too?
