ha, I was seeing this chick a while back. Went to pick her up at her parents, and mommy and daddy were outside. Dad was pissdrunk, had been told I was a Marine.

wanted me to salute him and shit (a nasty civilian  ) I kindly refused.

then the dude took a swing at me, I just backed away and took off before I did anything stupid.

but don't worry OP, I'm pretty sure that won't happen to you. Hahaha

Some of the advice on here can score some real brownie points- like bringing flowers, a bottle of wine, etc.

But keep in mind that if that's not the person you are- they will know you're kissing their ass.

Don't act a certain way to impress them- just be yourself.

make sure you pull up to the house speeding and screaching your brakes while blasting gangster rap and smoking then tell the father your unemployed and come from a broken home lulz.

i think that covers just about everything :) lol if you do none of that i think you will be ok firm hand shake and all no ebonics and no pant's hanging around your ass follow this and your gonna hit.

oh and btw now you hate toyota and are a total ford guy

But what if they don't drink alcohol? Or what if someone in the house is trying to overcome a drinking problem? Better to be safe than sorry?

My son's girlfriend (first time to dinner with us last night) offered to bring wine and I politely refused. Nobody in our family drinks.

Hahaha wow thanks for all the responses TW!

Yeah well I am a polite and respectful kid, I am not one that is disrespectful in any way. It's just the fact that it's my soon to be girlfriends dad that I am meeting is scary. But when I am at the dinner table should I just answer their questions or should I ask them some questions in return as well?

Don't ask them personal ones. If a topic comes up that you are truly interested in, ask him questions that you will learn from, not challenge him with. Make conversation!

Cuz I was thinking like if they ask me what I do for work, then I would ask them what they do after answering their question. Stuff like that, I wouldn't ask them a question after every question that they ask me but yeah you get the deal.

    You'll be fine.

Just don't drop a deuce the first time you visit. If you do, light a match (carry a book of matches just in case).

Seriously though, sounds like you care enough to make a good first impression that you probably will do fine. You could ask your potential GF if there's something the fam would like--like pie or something--and bring that.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
You need to look around for something to ask a question about. If he has a collection of something visible ?
May be mom or dad will say something about what they do and you can ask more about that. Don't dominate conversation and don't act like you know what they are talking about if you truly don't know.
If you know something they are unclear of then by all means speak up but keep it simple and only go further if they ask you to. If you act stupid you'll always be stupid.
Definitely bring some cookies or something simple like that. Ask your GF for a pointer on this.
And as others have suggested offer to help with anything. Wash dishes with you GF or dry them. Whatever. They may just say no to the help and that's but be sure to offer.
Parents of every GF I've ever had loved me more than their own kids.

Just be yourself and go with the flow.

Just be yourself. I wouldn't initiate odd topics like politics or anything like that. Bringing something to the house is nice but not a necessity.
