I told you guys I had crappy memory. My system is made by Python...model 991 - http://www.pythoncarsecurity.com/products/product.aspx?ProductID=619 and it does have the alarm system built in as does the Viper 5902

but both the Viper and the Python are made by Directed Electronics and are pretty much the exact same hardware with a little different look to the remotes and different name badges

I'll use it if I'm taking the monkey out and about. Usually just start it before I get her ready to go which gives me 3 minutes of it idling.

Otherwise I just get in and go.

Vehicle heats up faster that way, but as much as I love a frozen 2 year old yelling in my ear...

Lovin my python 991 so far. Range is incredible. I actually remote started the truck the other day from inside an elevator. Didn't think it would work, but it did. I just wanted to test and see if it would.

I should be getting one in my Taco in a few weeks.

But I've had it in nearly every vehicle I've owned to this point, including the current 04 4Runner. I only use it on cold days (-10c and colder) to get the cab warmed up. I don't let it run too long tho, just enough so my windshield defrosts and it doesn't feel like I'm breaking things driving over bumps, snowbanks etc. Anything beyond that is just wasting gas.

I wanted one until I found out how much it helps thieves steal your truck, i'll just warm it up myself.

A good remote starter/alarm system makes it pretty much impossible for your vehicle to be stolen...

This is not what I read in other posts, once they find your main brain the ignition wires are right there in front of them to hotwire. This system actually helps them out. Just what I read here.....

My alarm system will warn someone they are too close to my vehicle even they are a few feet away. If the would-be thief chose to go further by opening my hood, trunk or doors the alarm would trip and disable the ignition system. Same thing would happen if there arms were made of rubber and they tried cutting any cables without opening something up... any sort of tampering pisses my alarm off.

This makes for a warm and secure vehicle albeit at a considerable expense. The little bastards in my old neighbourhood basically forced me to go this route...

This, I live in a safe secure neighborhood. Not only is my truck not going to be stolen, i'm not going to give the thieves easy access to my ignition wires. If you have a remote start it is like giving a thief a key to your truck.

With a good remote start, even if the car is on, you cannot put it in gear without the key in the ignition and in the 'on' position.

Just because you can access what the fob does wirelessly, doesn't mean it's a key to your vehicle.

Obviously you just haven't had a look and/or are familiar with good alarm systems. Go down to your local high-end alarm seller/installer for an educational experience.

Don't take this as me being a douche and coming off aggressively as it is not intended to be. Thieves don't want to steal things that are ragged out and worthless they want the things that will get them a high dollar return. Things like this are usually in the higher class parts of town where people feel that they are safe and their stuff won't get stolen just because the don't see suspicious characters walking around everyday. You may think that your truck won't get stolen because you live in what you believe to be a safe secure neighborhood but it can and does happen, even in gated communities people get robbed all the time. IMO to think like this is to be naive and more or less asking to be robbed.
