How can I from stock to stud without goin broke?

Aaight, I'm pretty new to this whole mod forum thing, so quick couple questions, I own a 2006 PreRunner TRD Offroad Edition, and I'm wanting to turn her into a beast, however, everything on it's stock right now, and I think my warranty's about run out, I want to boost my power, performance, and gas mileage without goin bankrupt. I', not the greatest with engines or electronics but I got a bunch of buddies that are capable and willin' to help me out, but I figured I'd ask ya'll... so far I've been told a cold air intake and a cat-back exhaust would boost both my power and MPG, I also want to put a 3" lift on my truck but I know this will affect my gas mileage as well. I got a bit of a lead foot so right now my truck gets close to 19 mpg. I was thinking a superchip would help counter-act the loss i get with the lift... what do ya'll recommend? Anything would be appreciated

And the cold air intake and cat-back exhaust? I was told to go K&N, and what would ya'll install first, the lift? exhaust? or intake? or should I just forget about them?

 

Chips don't work on Toyotas because Toyata encrypts the ECM. Other US manufacturers make the ECM source code available to the aftermarket.

You already have cold air intake stock.

Cat back exhaust is for sound not power.

Throttle body spacer adds a whistling noise but is otherwise a paperweight.

Basically, there's an entire industry that makes money by taking advantage of folks like you who think there's a quick fix for power and performance.

Want more power? Install a TRD supercharger.

 

With the supercharger, would I have to get all new headers, driveshafts, etc. to be able to handle the added power without blowing my engine?

The loss from a lift is mostly from the decreased effective gear ratio by running oversized tires.

Most folks counteract that by re-gearing their differentials. If you run 33" tires - typically folks regear the V6 to 4.56. Most folks won't bother to regear after going to 32" tires, but if you did, you'd probably go from 3.70 to 4.10 gears. For a pre-runner, this is a fairly affordable change, especially if you pull the 3rd member (differential) out of the truck yourself and take it to the diff specialty shop to have the gears installed.

The loss due to increased wind resistance and increased tire weight is just a write off.

For your goal of "beast" - go ahead and consider a cat back exhaust, just manage your expectations. You won't have more power, but your truck will *sound* more powerful.

 

I aint going for anything big on the lift, i figured just a 3" suspension and then throwing 31"s on it, and with the cat back, won't it help reduce back pressure on the engine? or should I go for a dual exhaust on that? I aint too concerned about the sound and you said earlier I already have a stock cold air intake... is that something that came with the TRD package? Cause as far as I know all i got with my truck was the running boards and the rear differential lock, with the trail tires which I've already switched to A/Ts

oh ok, I've been looking though different lifts, so far I've been told to get the 5100 bilstien and now this OME, I was leaning towards a Skyjacker lift, is there really any difference? and how difficult are they to install?
