17 " to 16"

Any one know if I can run 16" aftermarket wheels on a 11 tacoma Dc. I,m looking at some Vision Warrior 375, in 16x8 with a 4.5" back spacing. Don,t like the 17" factory wheels and the price difference 17,s compared to 16,s.

A lot of 16" wheels don't clear the brake calipers on 2nd gens. I would ask for a test fit before buying.

are you sure your factory wheels are 17"? my 2011 trd off-road came stock with 16" wheels. KPT is absolutely right about the brake caliper issue. the simple answer is yes you can run 16" wheels but most will have clearance issues with the brake calipers. some wheels will only clear the outside of the caliper by a 1/16" or less so there is no tolerance if anything were to flex. the other clearance issue arises when you balance the wheels with stick on tape weights. you are limited to where you can apply the weights on the inside of the wheel because the caliper will rip them off as they rotate. i am running 16x8 V-Tec Raptors on my truck but i tried 3 other sets of wheels that, according to the fitment guide should have fit, but didn't. you can't judge the fitment solely on the backspace and offset - it's more a function of the design of the wheel: the the depth of the mounting pad in relation of the angle created with the center line of the wheel. i called Pro-Comp and they said their wheels wouldn't fit my application - yet - i saw a late model taco with 17" Pro-Comps and they fit ( i actually looked at them and examined the clearance).

if i had to do it over again, i might opt for the 17" wheels because there are fewer headaches.

test fit the wheels befor you mount tires on them. good luck...

 

I just went from the 17" TRD Sport wheels to 16" KMC Enduros. The wheels were a tad close to the calipers but never rubbed. However, I shaved about 1-2mm off of each caliper just for peace of mind
