Breaking down and getting a TRD exhaust

After several hours listening to poor quality YouTube videos, reading countless posts about drone and whatnot, and scratching my head until bald spots became apparent, I have finally decided to get a TRD Catback Exhaust for my 2011 TRD Off Road.

I have seen several videos showing one exhaust, but none showing a side by side before and after. This is what I plan to do to help anyone interested in the future. High quality audio and video of each.

Also, after asking, my local dealership agreed to price match anything I brought them. Install is going to run about $150, and I have a 10% off coupon that they will stack on top of everything.

Quote is just under $475 out the door installed at a dealership. Good price?

 

Install yourself! its literally a couple bolts and hanging hangers.

You can do it! Besides if you do it yourself you have more money for other mods.

 

Do you have a socket wrench set and a flat head screw driver?

 

Good choice you won't be disappointed!

And do the install yourself, all you really need is some sockets, beer, and about 2-3 hours if you don't know what your doing. It's super easy to do.

 

Hell I just saw your in palm beach, im sure if you come to one of the upcomming meets, any of us (incluidng myself if im there) would be more than happy to pop that sucker on for yah.

 

But it will be here Monday...idk if I can wait until Jan 13th.

 

If you crawl up under the truck you will laugh when you see how easy it is. IIRC its 2 bolts, then you just slide the rubber hangers off of the old exhaust, slide the new exhaust into the rubber hangers, and bolt up, done

 

I love twisting nipples...I'm thinking about doing it myself now. Hmmm...

How do you get it around the rear axel? Isn't it one long pipe? Wouldn't you have to drop the axel? I have no idea...

I have the flowmaster american thunder exhaust system and it sounds awesome. and i put it on by myself with the truck sitting on the ground. only took about 2 hours.

 

Why would it take 1.5-2 hours to do if it's just a couple of hangers and 2 bolts?

 

There was a write up somewhere on installing that exhaust. They dropped the spare and it gave all the room in the world.

Just don't mix stainless exhaust tip + fingerprints. Went through that on my Honda's header. It will literally be yours because the fingerprint will turn blue and stay visible FOREVER.

Okay...I think I can do this... Does anyone know if it comes with the new gasket?

 

Happy BLACK FRIDAY!!! Called the dealer to cancel my appointment for the install because I decided to do it myself...told them that it couldn't take more than 20 min for a Toyota tech to install the exhaust and they were charging me for an hour and a half. They said they would do it for $50 out the door if I brought the truck in first thing tomorrow morning. For that price, its worth it for me to get the warranty behind the dealer...

Quoted $410 otd with install...told me I could still use the 10% off coupon.
invoiced amount is $391.14. I'm happy with that...
