2nd Gen Tacoma Travel

Does anyone know how much travel a stock 2009 Tacoma TRD Off Road has both front and rear? Tried looking it up but couldnt find it

 

I believe 7" total up front ... and the rear is close to the same but not sure on the exact number

 

Interesting topic. Is this typical for most production 4x4 trucks? What are typical numbers for mid and long travel Taco setups?

 

I am asking this because my friend just bought a new Ford Raptor. They are sporting 11.2" of travel in the front and 12.1" of travel in the rear. Just wanted to know what we have. Trying to figure out what I have now that I have my new suspension as well. I want to know if I can hang with the Raptor.

 

No way you'll be able to hang if you have stock suspension. Not only does the raptor have a decent amount of wheel travel...the fox shocks that are on the raptor are specially tuned just for that truck and they are internally bypassed.

 

Not for what it's designed for, which would be desert running. But then, get on some tight trails and watch him not be able to make turns.

Modified suspension setups on Tacomas allow for raptor-like numbers. But it'll cost a bit of coin.

 

My truck is not stock. I have king suspension all around, UCAs and deaver leaf springs.

Do the Icon + uniballs allow for more uptravel if you removed the factory bumpstop?

 

So do the Icons give more travel than the Kings?

 

Icon told me 10" if used with their uca and camburg quoted me 10.5" with theirs. I'm pretty sure I've ran across a few members with 9'-10" range with a uniball and ext travel! But I'm running toytec so I wouldn't know! Id say with some ext travel shocks, uniballs, jounce shocks/upgraded bump stops, decent rear springs and enough fender clearance you would keep up. Still cheaper than a raptor and could wheel plenty of other places the raptor couldn't!

OP - Have you wheeled with him and tried to keep up? Just curious! Your prob in decent shape but would want to build the rear first.......full deaver pack or defined SUA with some 10" travel shocks to start with!

 

I have not wheeled with him yet. He just got the truck and has yet to try it out. Your probably all right though. Been watching some Raptor videos and that thing can take some mean jumps stock. Dont think I can do that with my current build. Need to put more into my truck. At least it feels better than it used to with what I have now.

I asked about stock because I wanted to know the stock numbers. I would then assume that I have a bit more than stock. I didnt want to ask "Hey does anyone know what my suspension travel is?"

 

A stock Raptor has its limits. The rear suspension has spring-over-axle and a lift block:



The rear bumpstop is mounted on the frame, not on the axle, which means there's a hole in the frame where it's weakest. If your friend actually attempts those jumps shown in Ford's promotional videos, he may bend his frame. The more serious Raptor users weld on frame reinforce plates and run hydraulic bumpstops.

 

all F-150 have that block, not really a "lift block" per say as it incorporates into a striking pad for the bump stop since Ford uses "out board" placed shocks.
