Looking for a shop.

Can anyone recommend a shop in the Tampa Bay area that can supply and install an RCD lift on my truck? I will be spending the month of February there and want to get it installed then. I know I can get a ProComp installed at 4WParts but I'd rather not go there if I don't have to.

 

Well I guess I'll take a look around when I get there. I would have thought there would be more than one 4wd shop in the Tampa area. 4wparts doesn't sell RCD either so that sucks along with the poor rep they have on here. If I can't find anyone who sells RCD there I might end up settling for the ProComp and hope 4wp doesn't have any issues with the install.

 

good luck... i had my truck in 4wp 5 times to seal the rear diff after the re gear... aparently it is really hard to get that cover to seal on a f250.. says the counter guy.

 

Nice. I was hoping (and still might) get it done somewhere else but I'm not getting any other shop recommendations.

 

well i dont know of any down that way but i got a friend that lives down that way i will shoot him a text and see.

Well I got a quote from 4wparts for 595 bucks to install it, 1560 for the kit itself, and 127 for alignment. Sounds fair to me. Wheels and tires are a lot cheaper than here too. I can get the 250 rebate on the kit if I make a small deposit before dec 1st.

 

There are no toyota specific shops in that area but a lot of jeep shops . Jeffs jeepyard in Clearwater does some pretty good work . you can also check to see if Blueyfab can get you the lift . they are in the Tampa area a specilize in toyotas but mostly all older style toyotas . . they also have a web site called fatshack. there is a guy on there named Greg he has a shop at his house and he does really nice work not sure if he could help you though . There is Northside 4x4 in Tampa but i dont think i would trust them . The 4wp in Tampa is pretty small you may have better luck with the 4wp in Orlando . if you call the Orlando store ask for Rex he has been there a long time .

 

I say find two friends, Buy a couple cases of beer, All the tools you need and get it done. Rent the bigger more expensive tools and do it yourself. Slowly but surely and with a how to on every part. When it comes down to it, Its really just bolts and nuts. For 600 bucks, You could save probably... Half that dude by doing it all your self.

 

Dude, I'm from Canada. I will be getting this done while on vacation. I don't have any friends there or a place to do it or tools with me. The kit is 2400 bucks here. That's why I'm getting it in Florida. Plus half the tax and a rebate. My bud and I could do it here in my garage but It's cheaper to pay somebody else to do it there.

Could you not just buy the stuff down there, save the tax, get the rebate, then bring it home and install it in your garage?

That way you know it's done right, you know how and what's been done, you still saved the money and you don't have to worry about something going wrong on your way home because it was done incorrectly.

If you pay for the lift and tires seperately, you can claim the receipts seperately at the border so you won't have to pay any taxes crossing back into Canada.

Just a thought, not trying to push you one way or the other.

Yes I could do that. If i buy the lift and tires/wheels and bring everything back with me I would pay hst (13%) at the border on everything over $1500.00. The first $1500.00 is tax free for two people on a 30 day stay. I think I would still have to pay Florida sales tax though. I also found out today that there is $250.00 off install as well as the $250.00 kit rebate in December.
