Anyone with the hi-rise style shell have any challenges w/ them vs a cab high design? I'd prefer one with a little more head room for camping but years ago had stress fractures on one.

Also - does anyone which brands offer w/ the Windoors option? I'd like to buy used and want to make sure I get one compatible w/ a Windoors option if I need to swap out the window. Thanks!

The headroom is always nice but are you ready for your Geezer Card ?

If you camp a lot why not look into a flippac? Looks terrible until the utility of it comes into play. Plus there is more room inside due to its taller stance. I love mine and I have windoors on both sides. Check em out.

I had an ARE MX on my 98 Tacoma and never had a problem with it. No cracks anywhere, even when the truck was t-boned and totaled.

When I replaced that truck with a new Tacoma, I bought another ARE MX (ARE has the Windoor option).

Unfortunately, that new shell and the install were of such poor quality that, despite my good luck with my first ARE shell, I won't buy another ARE product.

Even the best companies can have a bad product get out the door, but ARE is hit or miss with quality, fit and finish. The paint match was perfect, though.

The one pictured doesn't quite say "geezer" does it? :D

I really like the function but it's not going to solve the need for something hardsided in some areas of bear country. I plan on a couple trips in areas reported to not allow sleeping in tents due to bears so something hardsided is probably needed.

Thanks - lemons - they are out there with every product.

Pfft, been waiting 5 weeks (this coming tuesday) since i ordered. So much for the original 2 - 3 week waiting time. Oh well, just getting anxious to get it. Truck has been detailed and the snow is ready to hit, defintely don't want the dogs in the cab anymore. :(

Wish I could say no, but anything over cab-high requires a valid Geezer Card.

Glad I found this thread. My dad told me this last friday that my Christmas present is a new shell, and to pick one out and he'll get it ordered. Woot!!!! I am leaning toward the A.R.E. Only problem is the closest dealer is about 180 miles away... The only reason I am thinking them is because I cannot find a Leer, in a shortbed with the windoors, which I think are the coolest thing since sliced bread. I would also like a frameless back window, but can do without that. I know there is a Leer dealer in my town, and an RV place that does shells too, but I'm not sure of the brand. I'm going to be talking to both of them tomorrow. Also the guy I bought my house from rigged up a pulley system to take his shell on and off his dodge. I'll take some pictures of it when I get home. Its pretty sweet.

As far as the flippac goes I have to disagree. I'm far from being a geezer. I do however like to use my truck to get me places far and away to camp. The flippac offers me a great way to camp. As awesome as my flippac is my next truck will most likely have a FWC camper on it...which is also over cab high. Guess it depends on your use of the truck and shell. They do look much cleaner with a cab high design.

Let me know when you get your next truck and want to sell that Flippac. I might give it a try! :D

Flippac, ARB and CampingLabs are different animals and don't require the Geezer Card.
FWC ? Do you mean FSC ?
Those are nice, I had a 10'-6" FSC and it was very nice but you can't penetrate the wilderness like you can with the others mentioned.
A Taco couldn't carry the one I had.

FWC stands for Four Wheel Campers. They are pop up hard sided campers. Met a guy who has one and his set up kicks ass. He even made an air dam up front to help with aerodynamics.

Yes , my Dakars sagged about 5/8" in the 6 months I've had my cap on .

I have also carried some heavy loads in the bed , so that probably didn't help .

Mine sagged after just having 240lbs of sand bags in the bed.

The stock leafs are crap , even the TSB , 4 leaf pack , I would expect some sag from stock leafs for sure .
