Workin Hard... Hardly workin.. same thing really. Sitting here waiting to get word from the boss to go sit in a meeting room and figure out a "go forward" plan of action for one of the processes here that got FUBAR'd a month or so ago

The managements "personel budget" for this building once we've finished construction and the project has finished and we give it back to base plant. They originally budgetted half a man for this MASSIVE building. (They were going to merge it as extra duties as part of another unit). But its going to take minimum 2 field guys and 1 panel operator for it. We have to draw up a proposal where to draw the line for the field duties so it's shared equally and 2 field posts can be created out of it.

Also, they blew up a small unit heater (Just a glycol heater with a fan) on day shift today that I have to deal with. Who ever installed the motor didn't align properly and the fan blades grinded away part of the safety shroud of the fan

 

Is it actually good?? Been debating it to deal with all the winter freezing up here..

 

One time... I made an AMAZING hazy windshield. Apparently I screwed it up.

Typical business decision. I love it when they do stuff on paper and think it's going to work out by just shoving extra stuff on other people. Did they even have any field people involved in the decision making process??

 

Good boy. I'm not saying don't play.... but just use your time wisely.

 

We've been telling them since last year that the original plan wasn't going to work, they decided just now to make it our "Emergancy of the day". God we have so many of those, really wish there was better planning but our midmanagement level has communication problems where they keep important info to themselves to make them seem invaluable to the company. Which falls on us to clean up all the last minute messes.

Does it work on bitumen and mud?

 

I'm thinking probably so. This was like 15 or so years ago.

Things were like that when I worked in an office. Took years for management to realize it. Sooooo all of us mid-managers (I was Customer Service Manager) and big wigs were given the task of implementing what's called Lean Manufacturing. It works for any business - if everyone buys in. Myself and 2 other people were sent to University of Tennessee in Knoxville to take a course on it. We learned all the fine points of Southwest Airlines and Toyota production. They are both successful for a reason. It was really an eye-opening class. We learned how to create cross-functional teams (representative from EVERY piece of the process) so every department had a say-so in whatever project/plan they were working on. It worked really well.

 

Bitumen - Non-Upgraded oilsands, basically a thick sludge. It's a bitch to clean off my truck every summer and gets speckled on over the year because of all the work trucks that drag it into town and across all the roadways here every day..
