Hmm, lets see, its a truck.

Hmm, lets see, rattled canned sliders.

    Hmm, lets see, problem? :D

90 ain't a bad price at all, but then quality becomes the real question. If you decide to get them, let me know.

Only because I'm jealous that yours is newer than mine.

The L didn't lip up the back, but just matched the bottom of the frame correct? I'll look at mine when I get back home and see how they welded the L on the underside of the frame.

On the stubbs sliders the top of the bracket is pointed like ^, so that they can weld all the way around. It's not a great position for the torch, but it's doable. I've used mine as intended, as well as using them as jack points, and they've been fine.

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
justin, since I saw you didn't get a trd OR, you got me thinking. I talked to kyle about it, but I think Im going to do like you and get a regular dbl cab 4wd and save the 3k from the trd and then be able to afford armor and lockage front and rear.

Unfortunately I will have a whole set of trd wet okoles I wont' be able to use....I'm sure brian would love some!

yep i was looking into a rear locker and it really only looks like 1500 for a full arb air set up. which in my opinion would be better than a stock locker??? maybe im wrong but that is how i feel at least. i would rather build my truck then buy it though so maybe that has something to do with it.

paul, since you are the resident mechanical engineer what is your take on the welding on the sliders? do you think it would be strong enough to weld them on as is? or do you think i need to do some trimming to give more area for a weld?

I did some FEA (finite element analysis) on this at work because I wanted to know the effect of impact loads on bolts patterns vs. welds paths. Though an IDEAL weld surpasses the bolting option by 10:1, we are still talking a gravity load of 6G's to 1. So either way, correctly done, will work fine. I'd print screen the results from each test but I can't use print screen at work.

Engrish prease? Welded, bolted? It's your choice. If both are correctly done (in a perfect situation), you won't break either. I did simulations and found you could drop the truck from about two and a half feet on the sliders without them breaking.

Even though I can mathematically prove this stuff, I am going to have mine welded by a professionally certified welder (friend of mine) because I'd rather go the safer than sorry route. I might be able to get us a group discount for welding sliders if we all do it at the same time too.

and yes, with what I've learned from emails with ARB, their stuff is way better quality than toyotas...once I get my new truck, I think we will be going they same route with our trucks. I think we should time our purchases at the same time so we can maybe get multiple order discounts.

sounds pretty good. with the multiple buy discount the only thing that frightens me is the install of the locker. kinda timid when it comes to differentials and transmissions. all in all i guess i just dont like gears.........

as far as the welding option goes, i guess my main question is do you think that with the design of the slider i have (L bracket and all) that there would be enough surface area to be welded. the main concern being you can only do a perimeter weld on the front top and back of the L bracket because the bottom actually extends to the end of the bottom of the frame ( if that makes sense??) i guess you could in theory run a bead on that edge but i wouldnt really want that to be my first option.

you still looking to get a used like 09 or something? cuz you can land a pretty sweet deal on an '11 right now. only prob is most all the '11's that are in the southeast right now that dealers can get to that are dc 4x4 are white.

I pm'd you that group buy! Let me know.. cause I might just get in on it also.. I have to re-gear so I was wanting to get the new gears while I was at it.

I can't do the locker anytime SOON but if it's a little ways out we all 3 might be able to get in on this deal...

That's not the scary part... The scary part with ARB's air lockers is you have to run the air hose.. YOU HAVE TO DRILL A HOLE IN YOUR DIFF!!! (I think)

    AGREED!!!

Is the bolt pattern different for the '11? If so what kind of deal you want to work? Do I have to drill any holes? If the price is right you might have a deal...

I'm with you on thinking that the stock All-Pro bracket for bolt-on application should be cut. Cut like 6" between the standoffs so that it resembles most of the weld-on applications and leave the resulting plates nice and wide to spread the load around.

Highly, highly recommend Richard Stubbs of Stubbs Welding. His turnaround is really quick, and they're beefcake.
