Windsheild Wiper Fluid Empty light on even though it's full???

My windsheild wiper fluid ran out and i left it empty for a few weeks. I filled it yesterday and i noticed the light it still on. What gives? This isn't the first time i've ran it dry and refilled it but it's the first time the light has stayed on. Any thoughts?

 

You have a light for that? Must be a 1st gen thing. Damn!

 

I was about to say that, figuring it was a 2nd Gen thing!

I guess I've never run mine low enough to see it...

Edit: I guess I should be productive here: I did have a washer sensor (float) go bad on a Dakota that my dad owned. We used to fill the reservoir with water and then add a little dish soap instead of buying washer fluid. I'm pretty sure that's what killed it. Never bothered to fix it. Unplugged the sensor, the light went off, washer fluid got topped off while checking oil from then on.

 

What kind of sensor is it? Is it a floater like you have in the toilet? If so perhaps the ball (that gives the buoyancy) got disconnected or the arm holding the ball just got stuck in the down position, signaling low level.
ETA: If it is a floater see if you can agitate it (move it) and see if it bounces back up.

 

I went to replace my tank on my 95 ordered a new one and no SHIT it had a hole at the bottom of it for a sensor. Had to buy the sensor next to fill the hole. MY truck doesnt have that option but it will soon when i get it wired ( see note below).

THo the dash on mine doesnt have a spot for low washer fluid. crap. bummer.

Nor does the light for low fuel work either never has since it was new. i checked the bulb its good. i dont think it was wired for it.

 

Well I've done a few bumpy offroad drives so far and that hasn't agitated it away. I'm starting to worry it might be an electrical thing since ad of yesterday, when I start my truck the brake light on the dash is on (even though I don't use the parking brake and it isn't on). The light stays on for a few minutes then flashes on and off like the fuel empty light when its on the fence about how much fuel I have until it finally goes away. Not sure if this is related or what.... might make a new thread but I'm going to search soon.


Before putting in the new rain-x fluid I bought I found a 6th of a jug from the summer (I believe) that I figured I'd throw in first. Big mistake because as I started to pour it I noticed this black Fleming like substance that at coagulated in the fluid. Only a few cups got in before I noticed but it has me wondering. I removed that filter like a dummy so the Flemy substance went in.

 

You can add a $0.99 bottle of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) into the window washer container. That might help dissolve the gunk. (it also works great as a de-icer)

 

I was just thinking about asking that as I was driving home. I've used a combo if alcohol and salt to clean out other things with great success.
