I agree...not sure why anyone would need a tac pen, knife, and a firearm.

So what kind of kit do you guys recommend for when the space aliens come? Methinks a tac pen and Glock may prove to be insufficient. But I guess that won't matter because the end is nigh...

That top one, everday-carry.com, is addicting :D. I was on there for a while looking at different items people carry for every day purposes. Makes me want to put something together like that.

Your truck will be a handy tool until the gas runs out, better to get a horse or maybe a goat or donkey. When our society dies all those gadgets will be useless.

^^ The intention is not to rover around earth in the Taco's...it is more or less a great tool to ensure we have the basics needed in case of an emergency. I travel an hour to and from work with my wife....for me it is a necessity to ensure my vehicle is stocked with the essentials to get home in a disaster situation. I don't intend to live out of it but I am prepared to live out of it for a short amount of time if needed.

This is a great topic discussion....what habits do you guys have to ensure you have enough fuel to get you from point A to point B at any given time? I try to stay consistently above 1/2 tank at all times. For a while I would top off every day after work to make sure I was always full. Until recently my wife and I lived an hour from any friends and family due to our work situations so a tank was plenty to get us back "home" with friends and family if SHTF. On the same token if something does happen and you live in a large city the interstate infrastructure will essentially turn into a parking lot. You sure as heck don't want to be caught empty and unable to get back home.

If I had to keep moving and go long distances I would probably ditch the Taco for a diesel. Then stop at every fast food joint.

^^^ Yes that very well can happen but I think there is a lot to be learned as well. There were countless rapes, robberies, assaults, etc which took place as the city was in pandemonium. By disarming these citizens they only took away their security....drives me nuts!

Fortunately for me I do not live in a liberal run city....it would take the national guard to come and take my guns!

Let's hope it doesn't come to this!

    ____:facepalm:

omg no one is coming for your guns if they do just move also no one is fighting the govt. back in the day the govt. had muskets the public had muskets so it was more or less and even field.

now our govt has nuclear weapons and specialized fire teams and heavy war equipment the public could never stage a successful revolt against the govt. not now a day's it's an illusion to think such things are even possible.

this thread keeps turning into a debate of gun rights or some shit and the possibility of the right to bear arms suddenly being taken away. everybody needs to chill out and stay on topic there is already threads concerning gun rights.

This thread is about using your truck to survive should the situation arise - stick to the topic or GTFO. No need to run the risk of locking an awesome thread full of great info about surviving in your truck.

Have any of you heard of the American Prepper's Network or The Zombie Squad? I reg'd up on both sites - pretty interesting stuff on both of them.

In regards to EDC, I recommend carrying what you are proficient in using. Again, tools are useless if you are not schooled in their proper use. I've never understood the "tactical pens". It's basically a Yawara or Kubotan but most martial arts have actual techniques for the employment of these, which takes time to learn. Same with knife fighting and pistol shooting.

I know knives are also survival tools but most people today carry a knife as a form of self defense without ever taking a knife fighting class, practicing drawing and opening the blade in high stress situations, or stabbing and cutting hanging meat that has bone mass behind it. If you're carrying a knife for survival, carry the biggest one you can because you'll need it to clear brush, butcher animals, etc. and a 3" $300 Benchmade that auto opens isn't going to cut it.

Same with pistols. Most people maybe go to the range once a month and fire 50 rounds and then go about their days carrying a pistol with a false sense of safety. Pistol training should entail drawing from concealed, shooting in all light environments, clearing stoppages, etc. If you miss at the range it's okay, if you pull a round at a crowded venue it means you shot someone you shouldn't have.

My EDC consists of either my 1911 or Glock, both of which I shoot regularly and feel comfortable carrying on an actual gun belt, not a belt from a deparment store. A spare magazine. A knife, usually my Spyderco or Benchmade. A small Surefire flashlight, my phone and wallet with passport. Also my wallet has the passive RFID shielding built into it. You can make it out of aluminum foil or just purchase one with it. I chose the latter so I don't look like a nutcase. Talk to any nerd and they'll tell you that it is possible to pull RFID info from passports at the airport. I also carry a tourniquet. I know that sounds extreme but I work in high threat environments 315 days of the year and it's became habit to grab just like my phone.

I think what people need to realize in any situation is all the tactical gear in the world will be useless if you just stare blankly at it. Firearms are useless if it takes you 3 rounds to get on target and you wind up wounding 2 bystanders in the process. Knives as a self defense tool are useless if the attacker walks up, takes your sally slash and then knocks the shit out of you and then picks up your knife and begins to stab you repeatedly after which he pilfers your pockets and takes your tactical pen, flashlight, pistol and Tacoma keys and then drives off in your truck and spends the next month in the woods because you supplied him.

Preparedness is about being prepared to use what you have. Not amassing a ton of gear spread throughout so many pouches you don't remember where anything is and then when you finally get it you need a book to remind yourself how to tie the knot or use the medical equipment.

In our family, we go to the range biweekly. My wife knows her carry weapon very well, knows how to manipulate the shotgun and M4. She knows where the med kit is in the truck and knows what symptoms require what. It'd suck to die from tension pneumothorax at the scene of a car wreck when there was an 18 gauge needle sitting in the medbag that you knew about but no one else did. Or that you're now a mute or permanently blinded because quick clot and hemacon cauterizes the flesh and should not be used around the eyes or mouth but you failed to share that info with your significant other.

What I'm trying to say is whatever gear you purchase, I'd recommend the knowledge and then practice first. Survival training like everything else in life is a perishable skill. Most community colleges offer survival classes and basic EMT classes. Between those two and an outing with your local rednecks for a hunting trip, you'll be fine for Zombieland.

:goingcrazy:Too bad I don't have the ability to delete the posts I don't see fit for the thread....YES PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC.

No one is talking about an overthrow of the government....no one is inducing panic regarding confiscation of firearms....no one should be talking about anything besides modifications to your rig or useful "preparedness" information.

Anyone update their gear? I purchased a 12 pack of 123A batteries for my flashlight today! I also happened to be at the local home store and bought a box of travel size Clorox disinfectant wipes for $.80 a piece.

Those are a great idea. I also snag the free wet naps from restaurants. Perfect for waterless bathing. You can also buy 100packs of Wet Naps for 3 bucks.
