Not necessarily. Depending on which rear wheel is spinning, you may not affect the orientation of the locking collar to the side gear on the same side as the collar - i.e. if you're spinning the side-gear on the same side as the locking collar. It works best if both wheels are turning at different speeds. It will also work if you're spinning the tire whose axle side gear is on the opposite side of the locking collar. It won't work if you're spinning the other tire - it's just a limit of the design.

This is another reason to turn the locker on *before* you get into the obstacle, just like you turn 4 wheel drive on *before* you get stuck.

4x4 and Lockers are the same thing...traction aids. You get them involved before you're boned.

    You're welcome.

That other system is a nice addition to the truck. It's been very useful for me in many situations. But as far as I can tell, it's off topic. So, enjoy your locker.

Edit: Also, no offense intended, please refrain from calling me bro.

I didn't see it mentioned, but FYI, the more you use and engage the locker the easier it gets. Mine will activate pretty much on the spot now with very little movement.

This is true...Toyota's actuators like exercise. If left alone for long periods, they can get sticky. Recommend actuating everything once a month to keep it happy.

only if you stay on the (ahem)bunny trails...meaning if you are on a easy/intermediate trail then you shouldn't have to worry about engaging the rear locker...but in all honesty, if you need to engage the locker for whatever reason that it may be, don't be afraid to do so. it's not going to hurt or ruin your truck. in fact..in the long run it will be easier on the drivetrain and everything else that's associated with it

Wow, you guys just posting to up your count? A-TRAC gives the truck locking traction on the front AND rear... that is indeed double what a rear locker gives.

So to have your complaints be accurate... In the threads about the FRONT (non-Toyota) locker being added to and existing real locked (or front and rear after market lockers), then that is where I have said the A-TRAC is not quite as much traction in THAT case. However, A-TRAC shines because it is a Toyota product, it is no extra charge with the Off Road 4WD, it doesn't affect steering, and it works.

So, reading 101 boys... I post to help others to ADD to their information... take it or leave it... You post to slander, make fun of, add to your post count, or for fun... How about helping others instead of worrying about me? This is not my first 4WD... nor my first Toyota... and I am old enough to be (some of you) your father. So, ignore me if you don't want to be informed on serious 4WD methods or equipment that I have used or am familiar with... I won't jump into your posts and go crazy like a couple of you do, following me around, okay!? Peace out... LOL

The foul language really needs to be moderated out... no need for profanity on an otherwise good forum.

    This is sig-worthy. You mind?

Are you just posting to up your count!??!

Seriously, wtf guy. Shut up about ATRAC. There's certain threads where your ATRAC-induced ramblings are OK, but not when some newbie is just wanting to know about a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT part of the truck.

Please, stop posting about ATRAC. PLEASE.

Y'know, someone told me how to 'ignore' members on here. I didn't think it was necessary, even if I don't get along with someone they still can post something good every now and then. But it just might be necessary for this guy, nothing but fecal matter.

    Stupid question time!

If I'm on the right trac (hey-o!), a scenario in which one rear wheel spins and the locker won't lock up is caused by the spinning wheel being on the *same side* as the locking collar, correct? Since that side is floating, the splines won't line up since the locking collar is spinning round and round, and it needs to be standing still so the other side splines can spin around and lock in, right?

So if that's the case and you're in that spot, could you in theory jack up the back a bit in so that both tires are free spinning and maybe hand spin them or something to get it to engage? Sounds goofy I know but mainly concerned for the theory.
