Beagle puppies

So my fiancee have a chance to get a Beagle puppy for very cheap. Neither of us have ever had a beagle (I've only had a lab, she grew up with a Jack Russel). What kind of things should we be aware of with beagles? How is their health (generalized).

 

I know they can be very vocal

 

my best friend had one for years. in was in a fence. it would get out some. but never ran away. )prob because it was a neighborhood and with kids around) when it would get out i had a think to open their garage and i would put him back up. when i moved in march of ’08 i stopped. than that same friend moved that some and lives 0.8 miles a way. the dog just ran free with the neighbors dogs. it ran a way tho last year i think.

 

do you have a place you can keep it? in side or out?

 

One of my good friends has one, he says its a dumb dog lol

 

My cousin has one, it has been a great well behaved dog. It has bad seizures and is on medication for that, no other health problems. Heard the seizures run in certain breeds and a beagle is one of them. Just what I heard, sure some folks will chime in.

 

they are a very healthy bread. they WILL destroy your place if you dont give her/him enough attention as mine does. they are very smart and will find ways to get into trouble if you dont make time for them. mine is currently a lil over 6 months old and she is pure evil but i love her.

 

Yeah we have a decent size yard, as well as the garage

I had a couple a few years back and if I were to get another dog, it would be another beagle. They are very energetic and fun to have around but can be a bit noisy at times. With little effort I had mine potty trained as well as some other basic dumb stuff that I though was cool for a dog to do and they were also great around my newborn daughter and continued into toddler years. As mine got older, they seemed to calm down a bit about barking at anything that moved. Some of issues to be concerned with is ear mites, hip problems and the love for them to follow their nose out in the open.

 

My buddy has a beagle. She is nice and likes to sit on your lap but she does get to howling lol but its funny.

 

I have 3, ...16, 5 and 3 years old. They are great dogs but as said they can be vocal when they are younger. They need alot of exercise. Remember they are a hunting bread so it's difficult to let them off the leash and expect them to stick around. Also they like to dig if not kept in check they can make a mess of your yard. They are a tough bread with very few health issues. Oh yea, they love to sleep under the blankets with you.

 

me and my family have had beagles our entire lives. ive always thought of them as awesome dogs. always loving, good health, all around great animals. they love sleeping on the bed at your feet, and occasionally i have woken up with her curled up in my armpit. they are very curious animals, need alot of excercise, and if you want it to be an "off the leash" type of dog, do not EVER put a leash on it because the second you unclip the leash....ZOOM! runaway dog.

some things to watch out for:

the beagle i have now will eat 24/7 so we have to meter her food
they dig out of fences alot
they will find dead things and roll in them
they will bark if they hear ANYTHING in the middle of the night, making you almost piss yourself


other than that, they are AWESOME pets with a great personality

i didnt wanna sound like a fairy hahahaaa, but a beagle puppy will bring chuck norris to his knees and make him cry.

 

My next door neighbor has a beagle. If I am out in my yard, that dog is barking the entire time. Actually it starts the minute I touch my door knob and doesn't stop until after I go back inside. As cute as they are, with a huge bias, I gotta say, I hate beagles.

 

thats just bad training though. you can easily teach any dog to not bark at known people, only strangers

 

I doubt you'll find a better dog.
