So I got rear ended a few weeks ago. The only bright side to this is I get a new rear bumper, I have a Trd off road and don't like chrome I asked the body shop to put the silver color matched bumper on which from what I can find online is actually cheaper but they are telling me that it comes unpainted only and I need to pay to have it painted, does anyone know this to be true? I don't mind paying I just want to make sure they aren't trying to milk me for an extra 250.00.

It's coming just not in the budget right now I am putting a topper on next month and want to get the cbi with swing away tire carrier to hold a 33" spare but I can't get the cost past the wife after buying a supercharger, snug top, lift and new tires in the last couple months.

Can't help on the bumper painting but gotta tell you that you should keep your wife. You are way ahead of me on the stuff approval so far. I did the snugtop and have sliders coming from Avid, but still hinting on the coming lift.

Yeah I got pretty lucky ( with the wife And the stuff she has approved) next round is going to be sliders and front and rear bumpers. I already have the sound system so after that I should be good to go!

$250 sounds high to paint a bumper. If you are already getting a new bumper there should only be refinish time and paint materials. The body labor will be the same either way which insurance is already paying for. Unless there is a higher cost difference for the unpainted version vs. the chrome, which I believe the chrome cost more. See if the shop is willing to work with you on the labor rate since you are paying out of pocket.

Bumpers do come unfinished or chromed. The chrome will be more. At worst, they should give credit for the savings of the bumper cost torwards the painting of the unfinished one.

+1 on this. Or, put the unpainted one on, it's a flat black, then paint it yourself, or get another shop to do it later, cheaper. BTW $250 to paint it sounds about right for a shop. It cost me $350 to get a bumper and eyelids painted, but I have Bacellona Red, which is a tri-coat paint.

Yeah I don't think 250 is unreasonable i just wanted to make sure the bumper didn't come color matched. Wanted to be sure they weren't just trying to get extra money for doing noting

Nope, check out the online Taco parts places for the bumper and how it's listed.

Also check out the following thread http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/41023-removal-installation-rear-bumper-3.html. There is a cheaper part number for the unpainted bumper. Maybe you/they can acquire the bumper and they'll paint it for cheaper/free.

I work at a body shop, and $250 seems about right to refinish a bumper like that. But double check the price of the chrome bumper, chrome will be more expensive so you shouldn't have to pay too much out of pocket to make up the difference.

250$ A guy on the forum had me go to a shop in Tempe Az and they quoted me at 125$ to paint the grill and bumper. 100$ if i prepped them first.
