Double Din Head Unit

Alright guys need some help again. I'm looking for a double din head unit. I've heard stories and looked around here at the Rosen, Pioneer and Alpine. I don't really know a whole lot about Kenwood. But here's a link to sonix electronics it compares the Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT AVIC-X930BT and Alpine INA-W910 INA-W900BT. I don't really like the Rosen and the closest installer is about 60 miles away.

I want the GPS mostly Pioneer does 12 million POI Alpine "only" has 6. Its Tele Atlas vs NAVTEQ.

I have the Bluetooth and JBL system with the steering wheel controls and would rather not lose that. I think I can just get an adapter right? I wouldn't need the mic for the BT or anything would I?

I also have the XM radio. I don't need a new antenna just adapter right?

Another question is on the comparison sheet there they mention a VCD... what the hell is a VCD? or AVI?

This was simple back in the day when none of that stuff existed haha... any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

 

Youll lose your Bluetooth controls. You can get a harness for the normal stereo controls tho. If you want to keep the BT controlsid say just get a gps.. like garmin, tom tom, etc.. you can get a whole new double done and have it all, you just won't have the BT steering wheel controls.

 

I have the avic x710bt (a step down from the 930bt) and its great. comes with built in bluetooth and a mic, too.

Thanks for clearing that up... In hind sight I probably could have been some what smart and checked Google but I didn't...

That sucks. I think I may back off that upgrade for a little while. Pick up a garmin for a little while. No sense spending that kinda cash if I lose the features I'm still paying for....

You will not lose Bluetooth controls if you get either the pioneer z130 or the 930bt as long as you use the newest version of firmware on the swips ( the piece for the steering wheel controls) the swips and pioneer is the only combination other than Rosen that will retain the steering wheel controls for Bluetooth and yes you can keep the factory back up camera and Bluetooth mic you just have to integrate them to the pioneer unit. For the xm you will need the tuner that pioneer uses the factory tuner is in the factory deck. The part number is gexp920xm it is a hideaway tuner. All of he. M info and controls is on the screen of he pioneer. I also highly recommend pioneer if you have an I pod most of my customers like there iPod interface better than alpine and kenwood. For the xm you can just transfer the subscription to the new unit and the pioneer tuner is only 90.00

 

Really? That's awesome. Thanks for clarifying that. I wish I would have known that before getting my Pioneer AVH-p4300. I second the Pioneer over other brands for ipod. It's my second pioneer double din, and both have excellent ipod interface.

Think theres a way to integrate the controls into the 4300? I'll also eventually wire up my backup camera into my headunit as well.

 

If you use a swipe your steering wheel controls will work, I am not sure if you would get back the Bluetooth controls if you have Bluetooth added to the 4300 I have never tested it on that head unit.

 

I have my normal steering wheel controls, I just wondered if I could get my BT back. I'll look into it.

i e mailed my pioneer rep he said it should be possible as long as you have the bluetooth installed on your 4300 and are using the swips for the steering wheel controll interface you just might have to update the firmware on the swips. this is from a third party i have not confirmed it.

 

ahh ok, yeah I don't have BT on my 4300 because I didn't want to lose the controls, so i just went without it. But If I can use the controls, I may get the BT module then. Thanks for the input man. appreciate it.

it will do the steering wheel controlls but the swips interface doesnt use the steering wheel bluetooth controlls for anything but pioneer yet.

I tried kenwood and just ended up going back to stock. It was just a big pain in the a$$.

 

Ive had just about every navi one could imagine. IMO Pioneer sounds the best , looks the best and best price for what you get. Sony sound lacks decent bass, Kenwood lacks highs, alpine lacks on screen looks. JVC and clarion unreliable. The best deck Ive had is my stock navi in my tiguan. 30 gig hard drive killer nav and graphics but for after market I like the pioneer. I can play vids from my iphone and get all kinds of cool programing from the iphone app by pioneer called AHA. btx930. Check yourself before you wreck yourself. Plus 32000 colors to choose from to ensure your deck matches stock color. Too many cool perks to mention and for 700 bucks it makes the stock speakers sound incredible.
