I have an 05 prerunner access cab 4cyl 5speed and need to replace my speakers soon as mine are all busted from the previous owner. I'm not too serious about my system and just want it to sound cleaner while staying on a budget, so we were out buying some decorations for Xmas and found this. Did a search but got nothing. Just a couple of questions...

    • Does anyone have any experience with this setup?

    • How hard can it be to make myself or modify the stock ones to fit the new speaker via a rotary tool?

    • Do the rear speakers need modifications?

    Thanks in advance :)

Did a quick tear-down of the door panels and looks like somebody already did the work for me as far as making aftermarket speakers fit via a rotary tool.

That setup by Pioneer at Wal-mart doesnt look to bad but for only $85 I would be weary about it. You know what they say, you get what you pay for. To be honest, I wouldnt try to go cheap on my Tacoma even with a tight budget. If anything, wait and try to save more money for a better system, just my $.02.

I installed them lastnight to replace the Ample brand component sets in the front and back and the Pioneers sounded much better! Now they do not have lows to rattle the windows but the mids sound clear and highs are crisp, much better than stock and very inexpensive. I haven't installed the deck yet because I ordered the dash install kit and harness from eBay lastnight for $22 and wont be here for another week. Could I have spent more money on a much better system?...sure, but I'm frugal and choose to invest my money on my new home, saving for a wedding, enjoying my weekends, and putting some away in my 401k :D
As of right now I am very satisfied with my $85 investment and cant wait to hear how much better the speakers will sound once I put a deck in there with some decent power :)

I think, considering your goals, that you made the right choice. You wanted a slight improvement, you paid a small amount, and it appears that you got a TON for your money. Well done!

Nice. Looks like you already got what you needed out of it. Let us know an honest review once the headunit is in. Does it have RCA's in the back for a sub? Maybe post a picture of the rear of the headunit? That would be cool.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Yeah. Pics and description of how it went. Thinking of upgrading my system one day. I have the bottom of the line factory install.

For sure. Yes it only has 1 pair and I'll try and get a snapshot of it during my lunch. I was going to take pics of the install lastnight but wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in the walmart package

I'll take pics of what I can, and my taco had the same bottom line system with a teenager upgrade of too much speaker not enough power system. To me audio is a lot like power to weight ratio, who cares if you have 300hp if your car weighs 5000lbs, and if it is only 3000lbs can you put the power to the ground to get best results ;)

You'll be suprised after you add the head unit, with more, cleaner power. Keep us posted.
