Largest tire size on stock 5 lug

imma noob..what is the BLACK BOX MOD?

 

i got a 2.7L 4 cy. automatic double cab. if i buy a lift kit what would it be and will i have to tune up my engine to handle the lift?

 

There is the Ready lift and Fat bobs lift. Google both of them for a 5 lug 2005+ tacoma.
No engine tuning is really needed. I would recommend get 4.10 gears though if you go over a 31'' tire.

oh and btw the black box is located on the back side of the front fender wells. Its a useless black box. If you cut it out you will gain an extra 1.5'' in your wheel well to fit a bigger tire.

Use the search tool on hear and search for black box mod. It should be in the 5 lug section.

you can fit 31s on 15x6 if you needed to. Minimum I would run though is a 7 inch wide rim. deflating a 31 on a 6 inch rim might debead in the sand.

 

I've got the readylift kit installed with 235's on. Hoping to upgrade after the blackbox mod and after i work for some more money...it's been a good year since I did anything and college isn't getting any cheaper! Anyone here done the black box mod with a readylift/fatbob kit AND is running 265s? or 255s? If so I'd love to see a picture

 

What made you choose that goodyear wrangler tire?
I'm trying to figure out what tire suits me best, everyone is pushing me towards BFgoodrich but it can be pricey...

I've had good luck with Bridgestone A/T on a Tundra. Stock tires were Goodrich - they were terrible

 

Just got brand new 235/75/15 BFG All Terrains with MB Chaos wheels, major improvement from stock!

 

wow west that looks good.i am not usually fan of black wheels but those look good.

 

I know this is an old thread but ive got a question. I have an 06 access on stock steelies. Just got a set of 2 of the goodyear wrangler radials and they look great. I only put 2 on the back to see if i like them. They look great and now after reading this thread i see they will fit up front as well. I was concerned about that. So now here is the question for those who know. I like having bigger tires out back so if im running the 235/75/15 wranglers on the front whats the biggest tires i can run on the back and not have rubbing issues.

Is it the 265/75/15 or the 30/10.50/15.

So who has pushed the limits of tire size on the rear for the stock steelies.

Also does anyone have a part number for an air shock to increase load capacity with out over stiffining the ride. I dont pull any traiilors but i do have a toolbox full of tools and i do use the bed for tools and materials.

 

So is the black box mod required with a 29" tire? (235/70/16) On a 5Lug no lift.

 

Not sure what size will fit but ill be putting my 235/75/15 on the front of my yota hopefully this weeekend. I wanna check and see if there are any rubbing issues. If not ill leave them there and put something bigger on the back i just cant seem to get an answer of whats the largest tire i can put back there with no rubbing issues.

 

On stock steelies, you can run 30x9.5 on the rear. But if you run 30x9.5 on the stock wheels for the front, that's a different story. The width of stock steelies are less than 7"

 

Ok well its done. I took the plunge did a whole lot of more research then came to the conclusion that the 235/75/15 goodyears would fit my fronts. I then went by the local tire kingdom and looked at a few different size tires to find the 30/950/15 was almost the same size as the 235/75/15 so I didnt think that would be enough tire to fill the back wheel well. I then went to the flea market (where I bought the goodyears) and asked what they had in a 31 and they only offered it in one tire something generic (ive never herd of them). They were cheap but look good 265.00 both tires mounted and balanced out the door. I need to was my truck today and afterwords ill get some pics.

Final outcome 235/75/15 goodyear wranglers up front.

31/1050/15 generic somethings on the back.

Wheel wells are pretty full I think it looks great. I've got 475.00 in tires total. The only thing I wish I could have done was just go buy these 2 tire sizes in BFG A/T instead. but on a budget under 500 bucks new tires all the way around I don't think I did to bad. ill get up picks later if anyone cares to see the final results.

hey HMason34, tell me more about your truck. I have an 04 2wd 4 cyl that I'm wanting to put something bigger on. But I'm not getting anywhere with good answers. Is your truck a 4x2 or 4x4 and what engine. I'm concerned that by going with bigger tires (now I have 205's on it) and know I can go 215s or 225 on my wheels but don't want to kill engine perf. HEY BOB Not sure what to say buddy. Lets start with Your 04 fenders are a lot smaller then the newer body style 05-current. So any info I give you on my 06 will not be true. Yours is closer to my other Tacoma which is a 98. Also even though my tacomas are both 4cyl. 5 speed my 06 is a totally different motor then yours and im not sure how much of a loss of power you will experience from the bigger tires with your 2rz. My 98 is low and fast not big and slow like my 06.
