Any fellow survivalists utilize their truck?

I'd like to have some sort of rack on the passenger side of the shifter, that carries the rifle or shotgun in an upright position. That way, if you're driving, you reach over and grab the weapon. Or the passenger can grab it easily too.

^^^ Has three settings and a strobe feature which is bad @$$!! The company claims the light can be submerged in water and strobe left running for 9 hours! I tried it in a 2 liter bottle and the claim is 100% valid!

 

i have a 4D maglite that has a aftermarket conversion head on it rated at 700lumens, it's almost as bright as my HID headlights on my truck

you want a badass light for under $100 with a ton of power? here ya go, this will be my next purchase (i'm a flashlight freak and i have way to many as it is lol)

Flashlights -

1. Determine needs
2. Go to http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/forum.php and be prepared to spend money.
3. Begin addiction with 1 or 2 lights.
4. Look into mods for said lights
5. Buy more.


Before CPF - 3 lights
After CPF - Probably 25 lights, from Surefire, clones for hosts, Streamlights, Fenix, Icon, etc. And I still look for more. All. The. Time. My wife makes fun of me.

If you are asking about drop ins - you can get 400 + lumens with a $30 drop in, in a $20 host. Multi modes, different color spectrum's, etc. All in a Surefire 6p sized light.

Have a link to the aftermarket conversion head for the Maglite? I only have about 30 Maglites in various configurations strewn throughout my apartment and boxes.

This is a good point - but where can you buy just the shell of a 6P-sized light?

^^^ I like that light Kessler posted. My Olight already runs on 123 batteries and is plenty bright enough for me. Would be good for someone just getting into the light market for sure!

 

Do you think your light would be bright enough to use in a self-defense situation (temporarily blinding the perp)?

Oh heck yes!!!! I have tried it myself while on strobe and I CANNOT even attempt to look at it straight on. That is one reason I got it. To be honest pictures would not do it justice at night but in the country I can shine it and light the tree tops a good 200-300 yards away. It can also be mounted to a barrel if needed.

 

With a ton of maglights, and if you dont mind mods, then get over to the site I linked above, and sign up. There is an Incan section, with a ton of mods for maglights.

As to host for a 6p - SolarForce makes a pretty nice one. Ebay has them around $25 bucks (I really like this one), but here is a gunmetal colored one for $13 bucks + shipping:

I went to a local Cabelas and picked up several of these on clearance in the Bargain Cave for around 20 bucks. 2 batteries, and a spare incan drop in for the lights I keep as xenon lights. If you have a store close, its worth checking on.

Vehicle

In case you are stranded, keep a kit of emergency supplies in your car. This kit should include:

• Jumper cables
• Flashlights and extra batteries
• First aid kit and necessary medications in case you are away from home for a prolonged time
• Food items containing protein such as nuts and energy bars; canned fruit and a portable can opener
• Water for each person and pet in your car
• AM/FM radio to listen to traffic reports and emergency messages
• Cat litter or sand for better tire traction
• Shovel
• Ice scraper
• Warm clothes, gloves, hat, sturdy boots, jacket and an extra change of clothes
• Blankets or sleeping bags

Also consider:

• A fully-charged cell phone and phone charger
• Flares or reflective triangle
• Baby formula and diapers if you have a small child

Be prepared for an emergency by keeping your gas tank full and if you find yourself stranded, be safe and stay in your car, put on your flashers, call for help and wait until it arrives.

 

Anything brighter than the old school 2AA maglights will work. Think about this - Surefire has been THE leader for years. And the light they sell most to police officers, military, rescue use, etc. is a 6p, with 60 lumens. When those are in your face, especially at night, they will disorient you.

With the LED models pushing 200 lumens, and drop ins easily 200-500 lumens, its hard to beat the price/performance of a host + drop in.

The other lights coming on the market, and the LED technology is amazing though!

 

i freakin' love CPF... There is a guy on there from Australia that made custom headlamps and it ran for ~$300... needless to say, i had to get it and ive been using it for EVERYTHING! especially when i need 2 hands to do whatever im doing.

'download' from CPF also makes great small every day carry lights. had 2 of his creations.. and boy are they blindingly bright.

I have a 4D Maglight that i dropped a 'Mac's Custom Drop-In' for about $100.... that thing is amazing too...

between this forum and CPF im getting poorer faster than the bum holding the sign when you exit the freeways! i dont know whats going to happen when i start looking into knives!

There's a quote in the disaster management field that states "we prepare, so we don't end up in the superdome." In the event of a major disaster, I will either shelter in place or get the **** out of town. My weapons are for foraging, and defensive purposes. Intherabbithole.com had an interesting podcast on bugging out and the mob mentality.

 

I love the strobe feature - this is a must in whatever light I get for self-defense. Ideally, I would have one for self-defense in both my home and my truck, and then another at home and in the car for distance/general use.

I've been on CPF before...but it was about three years ago...I'll have to reg up again.
