    If I was gonna reinforce a skid I would put a 1/2" tall strip of 1/4" plate straight down the middle and then one on each side near the edges. Space permitting. Or use square tube and box the ends so crap doesn't get inside. I don't think rod is going to provide much of an increase in rigidity.
