I found the opposite, lost minimum 3 mpg over the oem tires.

Which OEM tires did you have? Mine has the Firestones LE's. Are your HydroEdge tires the LRR version, and what size?

Not sure on the oem's, think they were firestone le's on the 5-lug.

I have the hydroedge that they claimed had green-x energy efficiency, don't know if they are calling it that anymore.

215/70/15 same size as stock irrc.

MPG has improved some but they were very noticeably worse from the start, I have 20k on them now.

I plan on putting some Firestone Destination AT's on my truck for winter and I'm hoping they don't destroy my mileage. They're only 5 lbs heavier per tire, and they will be roughly the same OD...so we shall see fairly soon.

bigger tires will dick your MPG bad and dragging the 4x4 around doesnt help either. You could also try seafoaming and or fuel treatments to make sure your injectors and such are nice and clean but your biggest factor is the bigger tires.

Are you going to keep the stock Wheels. Anyone know the weight of the stock 5 lug steel wheel?

According to the specs listed on the Tire Rack site. The LE's weigh 23 lb. Looking at getting 16" alloys when my LE's are toast. There are very few 16 in tires that weigh 23-25 pounds, a few Michelins but no Stones.

Reading reviews on the Tire Rack for tires that are listed as LRR, very few people are bragging about a 2+ MPG increases.

I think I plan on keeping the stock wheel just in case I need them. But I'd sell them if someone made a decent offer. And I'm not sure what the weight is on the stock wheels...maybe I'll weigh them once I swap tires.

Read your take on MPG MODS. Best, honest, that's the way is approach I heard to date.
I became part of the group of Village Idiots the purchased CAI and C.back all along knowing what I was actually getting. Next to nothing needless to say. All's well.

andrewfalk I was also interested in finding out how much the stock steel ( i think) rims weigh. they are ugly and I am going to replace them, but was looking for something lighter or the same weight to try keep the gas mileage up. Anyone know how my these ugly little guys weigh?

MPG mods simple: get a throttle body spacer, an ebay performance chip and one of those turbine looking things on ebay that increased your mpg by 50+

Just Kidding, Your best bet is to keep your stock tires size and keep a light foot on the pedal.

I'll weigh mine once I swap tires out. I've been searching for that info for a while with no luck. And as Hayes stated, aluminum wheels will be lighter, but of course they will also cost more. Hopefully, in 2-3 weeks I'll post back here will the exact weight.

Andrew thanks for the info, I cant find any rims i really like in a 16'" So I have to move up to 17" I guess its just pretty much a mute point for trying to offset the bigger rim and tire cost by matching the weight.

OD will always give you the best mileage on highway, only put it in 4th gear if towing some weight
