And the real shit of it is that you'll be very lucky to find a dealer who is willing to turn it off, even if it is "optional". Liability issues, you know... :jerkoff::facepalm:

I live in oklahoma so i dont think it will be an issue, if you have a farm truck tag you dont have to wear a seatbelt, ever, so im gonna play that card lol

does anyone know exactly where the chirper is? and that it comes out in 15 seconds?

so i finally was able to disable the beep on MY tacoma now too (2012). it's probably because i'm a moron, but the instructions weren't clear enough my birdbrain, so if anyone down the line has issues, hopefully they can read my version to help troubleshoot. the confusion for me centered around waiting 10sec for the answer-back buzzer. so, when you approach your car and unlock it using the key fob...

    1) open the driver-side door and leave it open.
    2) insert key into the ignition, but do not turn it.
    3) remove the key from the ignition.
    4) within 5sec, re-insert key into the ignition, and turn it to the "ON" cycle (i.e. not actually start your engine).
    5) within 10sec, press the lock button two times, and you will hear a chirp/sound to notify you that you successfully changed the beep settings.
    6) pull key out of ignition, closer driver-side door, and confirm/deny the beeps are gone by pressing the lock button on your key fob.

just got off the phone with a local stealership, they are going to disable the seatbelt chirp and possibly the door ajar tone, for free, tuesday morning. I will check back in after it gets done.

The seatbelt is a easy DIY, just a plug under the seat and your done, I did it a few days ago

yeah ive read that, disconnecting the battery isnt part of my daily routine so i think i'll be good for a year or 3... i generally dont disconnect it either when they say you are supposed to, you know, working on the truck and stuff. and when i replace them I have a jump box i can have connected to the leads and keep the truck idling on top of that if i care that much. anyway you look at it, i'll still be happy not hearing it when im coming down my driveway (1/2 mile) and pop my seatbelt off, and its not costing me anything more than 20 minutes of my time... plus if they actually can turn the door ajar tone off thats like the icing on the cake!

Can you indicate/direct which/where the plug is? I peeked underneath my seat and didn't see much to go off of.

Just did the following from a previous post, works perfectly. No need to go to the dealership or cut/remove anything.

Step 1: Open the drivers door and leave open, insert the key into the ignition

Step 2: Remove the key from the ignition, within 5 seconds,
reinsert the key back into the ignition and turn it to the on position.

Step 3: After approx. 10 seconds, (and the dash stops beeping), the system enters the answer-back mode

Step 4: Press the lock button on the remote twice and the system will turn the sound off, the lights will still flash

Step 5: Exit the truck, close the door and check it.

I don't really mind the beep but I really hate some of the Honda's that have door lock linked to horn!

If I am not mistaken, you also turned off the airbag for your passenger by unplugging it. Someone please chime in if I am wrong...

Damn am I the only Tacoma driver that wears a seatbelt? What is the big deal? They don't play that no seatbelt thing in Texas. Good luck if you wreck! (referring to prevoius post's about the seatbelt)

I took my 2012 in for 6 month service this morning and asked to have the remote lock beeper put on mute. I had this done by the same dealer on an older Tacoma (and on an even older Tacoma by a different dealer) so I assumed that this would be a routine item.

However, they could not mute the beeper! The service tech doing the routine maintenance was unsuccessful, so they had a "master tech" give it a try and he could not do it either. The story they gave me was that the particular set up of my truck (access cab, V6, auto, SR5, tow pkg) would not allow the muting. They had never had this happen before.

So, I went to tacomaworld, and I immediately found a simple solution. The key routine with remote activation described above worked the first time.

    Thanks guys!

    Nice

I may disable the beep like I did on my last car. Thank god the tacoma beep isnt as bad as SAAB's beeps... I think theirs was designed to kill off small rodents near the vehicle. It was bad.

Going to go try disabling this beep now to see how I like it :D

edit: Worked. I'll try it out for a week or so and see how I like it.

    Thank you,
just did it with my 2012.
Now, if only I could disable the relock feature. You know, the one where you use the remote to unlock your door, and if you dont enter within about 20-30 seconds it automatically relocks

I have a 2012 AC with towing package and this didnt work for me. I just removed the buzzer. A friend of mine thought removing the buzzer would cause problems with factory security system etc. I really dont think so. Thoughts?
