Here's an idea. I am constantly thinking about what mod I want next for my truck. Sometimes its difficult to decide what should come first or come at all. Opinions and ideas are always appreciated for the most part so lets create a "suggestion" type kind of thread. (Basically its a "If I had your truck and budget I would _________" kind of thing)

    Rules:

    Post photo of truck:

    What mods you are considering:

    Your budget if applicable:

What you use your Taco for: Work, off roading, hunting..etc.

    Add topics/ideas as needed:

*Prepare for feedback* keep an open mind.

(Remember that by doing this others will be giving honest opinions) *lets do our best to give constructive feedback and/or criticism (if necessary)

I think that this will be very helpfull and a lot of fun for the members...

I will start off since I made this post.

I don't have a picture readily available besides my sig but here is what I'm looking at.

AEM brute force cold air intake. -$280
    N-fab light bar...four 6 inch lights -$120 lights -$150
Super 40 flowmaster muffler+tip on stock exhaust -$200 after installation

I don't do any extreme off roading, just the occasional mud so I kinda ruled out an expensive suspension lift. I have 3 inches of lift right now but just because of spacers.

Would scrapping all of the above stuff be worth getting a NICE 3 inch lift instead?

Overall budget is right around $1,500

I'm kinda in the same position as you as far as suspension work goes... It's difficult to decide whether I actually need to do that... my Dad has a 01 Taco and he has given it absolute hell and it never had any kind of after market suspension and its still ticking...200,000+ miles on it.

it really just depends on if you are gonna wheel your truck really hard or not...i mean spacers are tough on your stock suspension components so IMO it would be worth looking into

    what i have:
5100's on all 4 corners (set at .85)
    toytec AAL
spidertrax wheel spacers (only on front but i want a rear set)
    LED dome and map lights
    satoshi grill
projector retrofit headlights (6000k HID's with blue angle eyes) (yet to be installed)

    what i want:
trail armor (front/high clearance rear bumper, sliders, full skids)
    bed mat
    paint my tool box black
    tinted windows
    dakar leaf pack
icon res. shocks (front and rear)
    upgrade stero
    change LEDs in dash
    rock lights
    FJ t-case swap
    front and rear locker
    TC UCA

i am sure there is some other stuff that i am forgetting lol

Well I'm honestly not ever going to take my truck out for some hard core wheeling, I duck hunt a lot so all I ever do is run into the occasional mud...
I'm torn between performance and looks.
    Cold air+exhaust vs. Lift+Bigger tires... I don't think my 265's will look good with a 6 inch and 285's won't fit a 3 inch lift is what I've heard.

And if I were you I would go with the suspension before the trail armor... its so much easier to give opinions than to make my own decisions haha

Personally, if I was going to spend roughly $500 on exhaust and intake, I'd save a little bit more and get the TRD products.

Also, I just spent a little over $1,000 dollars on my lift, and I'm VERY pleased with the way it turned out, especially for a somewhat "budget friendly" build. The ride is amazing, and I actually like it better than the stock ride. I know a set of King or Fox coilovers and shocks with new leaf packs and stuff would be nicer, but I don't have that kind of money to fork over at the moment.

As far as the lights, I'm wanting the same thing. I want to pick up a NFAB light bar, along with four Hella 700FF lights to mount on it.

Here is my lift set up, with prices if you're interested:

    - $283 Bilstein 5100 Adjustable Front and 5100 Rear
    - $190 OME 885x Coil Springs
    - $60 ToyTec Top Plate Spacers
    - $80 ToyTec/Deaver AAL
    - $49 All-Pro U-Bolt Flip
    - $29 ToyTec Axle Shims
    - $12 ToyTec Carrier Bearing Drop
    - $375 Light Racing UCA's
    - $116 All-Pro Extended Brake Lines
    - $200 SpiderTrax Wheel Spacers
    - $75 Alignment

TOTAL: $1,469 plus various shipping/install charges

haha yeah you right. but i have a little less than 3 inches (about 2.5") and i am running 285's. the suspension i have now is pretty decent but i really, really need that armor lol doing tight trail runs with sharp rocks = shit getting fucked up without it haha

nope no problems with the spacers. i have heard/seen horror stories but it really just comes down to maintenance and taking the time to make sure they are tighten correctly

-What lift did you just install?

-I'm running spacers and I don't ever experience any problems but I don't put my truck through many tough situations...and it looks good

i also try and prioritize my mods. for example, granted this is gonna take me a while but, i am gonna get armor for my whole truck before i even touch the audio.

not getting my panels smashed in > being able to listen to my ipod

as much as i would love to get a fancy new double din head unit, i really need armor more lol

    function > looks

Do the 285's fit and drive ok? I don't mind doing a little trimming.

I updated the first post I made to include a list of parts, along with prices.

Also, it says I posted the question about spacers, but I think that was a guy right above me

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure.. It was suggested to me that I should get them because flexing on trails and such could possibly stretch out the stock lines. In my honest opinion, I think I would have been fine with the stock ones, but who knows? They're installed and working now so no point in backing out, lol.

This suspension sure does look good to me!

Except, Toyota just installed their "new" heavier leaf springs and rear shocks on my truck. So I'm kinda thinking that I don't really need any rear equipment...but I'd sure hate to srew up
