i've had a slight synchronized tapping or ticking coming from engine compartment when excelerating over 2000 rpm. but only when on the gas over 2000 rpms. stops once i let off. no matter what rpms or speed. thought it was break in, but now chalked it up to engine function noise. im at a lil under 6000 on odo.......

does a consistent rpm when breaking in a truck matter over the life of the truck?. for example: if i keep my truck consistantly around 2000 rpm while breaking it in, will it prefer or perform better at that rpm. and will it loose a lil "pep" because of it. i try to maintain good mpg's but dont want to make my truck whimpy.lol if thats possible...... sorry for the essay

    2011 4cyl 4x4 auto acc cab SR5 - stock. 14000 km

Vibration on highway starts about 90km/h (55) gets bad around 105 (65) and bad enough for the wife to complain from the passenger seat at around 120 (75). Dealer claims they don't notice it. Ha.

Chirp from blower motor - replaced under warranty.

Ask the dealer to do a Road Force Balance. If you still have issues with dealer contact Toyota, they will work with you & dealer to fix the issue. Have you talked to the Service Mgr. or Customer Service Mgr. I had a vibration issue myself in my 09Tacoma dbl cab TRD Sport. Dealer did a road force balance, it helped. Good luck

    Thanks.
New tires are going on in the next few days, we'll see if that fixes the problem. Feels more like a driveline issue to me though.

    6) Leather-wrapped steering wheel had a seam that wasn't flush, it was almost as if there was extra material present, which resulted in a raised bump right at the 10 o'clock position on the wheel. Around 5K miles I noticed that the leather was beginning to split/fray here, probably because of it being more exposed and rubbing against my hand. Case # from Toyota and dealer took one look and will replace the wheel.

    6. Bad clutch! purchased with 5,000 miles on it feom a Toyyota dealer. It is a certified used Toyota.
    7. Clutch slipping! after only a few miles!
    8. Finally got it to slip while Dealer person was driving. Dealer replaced the the clutch pressure plate and all related parts and checked the truck over very well. It appears it was manufactured with with an inferior Mexican clutch with more "fingers" in it then the Japanese made counter part. There was a bulletin out on it and they have replaced others at no charge as well. It now has a separate new warranty. It was an ordeal, but it works fine now!

The engine doesnt 'prefer' a certain RPM aside from your power band where you make the most of your HP and TQ's. Engine break in is required(most people drive their cars like they stole it from day one) to insure the seals, gaskets, and rings heat up properly and wear to each other in a relatively 'calm' environment.

The unspoken rule of engine break in that Ive understood from mechanics and from my own experience is dont consistently rev up to red line or around, and try not to punch it till you get out of the manufacturer's suggested break in period. The way I see it is, take it easy for those 1000-1500 miles, then treat it like crap. To each their own though.

Id say you have an engine issue, personally Im not too knowledgeable on these engines so I couldnt tell you if its nothing to be worried about. If YOU dont feel it sounds right, bring it in, thats what matters, then have them explain what is causing it(could be a number of things) since you seem interested in what is causing it. Could just be you have loud ass valves.

Update on the vibration - see earlier post.

New tires installed a couple weeks ago - no change.

Was going in for oil change anyway, so I went for a drive with the head mechanic, he notices the vibration right away. Went over the driveline = no apparent problems.

Take the wheels and tires off the service manager's Tacoma, road test = same vibration.

Service manager takes my truck for a drive = no vibration (that the rest of them don't have). He basically challenged me to grab one off the lot that doesn't feel exactly the same on the highway.

He said "unless Toyota comes down the line with something, there's nothing we can do." Which I understood as " We know there's a problem, but Toyota hasn't told us to fix it yet".

    Any input?

I had vibration in my 09 dbl cab. I read on this forum that a road force balance should be done. I told my service manager this & he did & got rid of the vibration. Insist your dealer do the same, if they won't contact Toyota, they will get you results. Good luck.

When my clutch went bad at 5,000 miles I had similar denials from the dealer. I then went to Ask.com and described my problem to their Toyota mechanic on line. He came back with a confirmation of the problem AND Toyota's bulletin number authorizing the repair! I had them! And I got a new clutch, related parts and a free loaner! Good luck.
