Lease agreements are strict. You can't do ANYTHING to the vehicle unless it's an upgrade (and they have to approve of it) such as an alarm. No special paint jobs, no tinted windows, no mods to the vehicle in terms of engine or exhaust. They want you to maintain it on schedule and they limit the miles on it.

    THEN

When you return it, they go over it with a fine tooth comb (to make sure it wasn't in any kind of accident that they don't know about).

A lease return is a very well kept car. Especially if you can get it on an early return.

Whereas as a rental - people rent it, buy insurance for the duration and beat the jelly out of it.

I think things work differently in Canada for Leases, I was told, do what you want...at the end you have a choice, take it back to stock and return it, return it modified but you won't get any money for the parts..or buy it out and not worry about it.

Mines a lease also, lightly modded ie. billies in the front with 1.75,aal,k&n's,and chokemaster exhaust system and also put some duratracs. No problems(yet) with the dealer when I take it in for the scheduled service. And like all my vehicle,I dive it and takes care of it lease or not.

Keep in mind that the dealer won't say anything to you about your upgrades when you bring it in for service. They are hoping that you buy out the lease so they don't care what you do to it WHILE you have it. They just want it back to stock or modded in terms of an upgrade that will be usable to the next person, the average Joe.

For example, my neighbor added a tail to her Altima, an alarm as well as some wheels. The money she spent for the tail and alarm did not get refunded to her but they DID charge her for stock wheels to be put back on the car and gave her the after market wheels back.

Some lease returns get sold as "certified", so that is why they want things back to stock as well as up to date service records and low miles so it will still be under warranty.

Not true. My sister just leased a civic and the dealer didn't give her any maintenance plan. For her first oil change, they wanted about $80. I said "I would tell them to do it for free, or else it wont get done"

I've had my leased truck for almost 3 months(plan on buying it out at the end). The salesman told me that anything is done to do vehicle it has to be approved by Toyota(Toyota's parts too) and done by them. If not, it will have to be removed before the vehicle goes back to them. Depending on how anal they wanna be they could charge you to have it removed if it wasn't approved or done by them. They told me it's pretty much like a finance you just have lower payments and you have the choice to return at the end or buy it. I'm buying it bitches!!!!!!!!!!!!Muwahhh!!!

With a leased vehicle it says in your contract that you're going to do the regular maintenance and keep in running condition etc. i guess that can screw you in the end if you don't do your regular maintenance. The dealer will not reimburse you the aftermarket parts if they approve to keep them on. Its good to make everything removable so if you don't plan on buying the vehicle and returning it.

I am currently in my 5th leased vehicle. I bought my 2008 Tacoma outright, but we lease my wife's vehicle so she will always be driving a vehicle under warranty. Just from experience, I always put the cheapest gas I can find and have never done the recommended maintenance. The only maintenance I have ever done on one of my leased vehicles is I had to replace the front brakes because they were squealing about 6 months before I was due to turn it in.

We have leased 2 Mitsubishi vehicles, one Sequoia, one Expedition, and now an Armada. I have never had to pay anything at the end of the lease, and I actually got some money back from my deposit on 2 of the leases. As you can see, leasing another vehicle from that dealership did not have any affect on the requirements. I regularly changed the oil (5,000 miles), and kept the receipts. Every time I brought the leased vehicle in for the end of lease drop off, all of the dealerships told me they were not interested in all of my paperwork and did not want it. They did not even look at it.

I focus more on the appearance of the vehicle than the working condition of the vehicle during a lease. Most companies have scratch and dent clauses in there agreements (2-3 per body panel). I'm not trying to scare you, but I would check all of my fluid levels and maybe change the more difficult fluids.

    Good Luck!
