hey guys just finished the removal of my body lift. it was alot more work than i expected but only took 6 hours (mostly by myself). it drives great. my shifter is at about the same level as my climate controls, i just need a skull shifter and some moonies and i can say i have the first 4wd rat rod taco lol.

anyways somewhere along the line i foregot to undo the battery(not sure that it matters) and now my airbag light is on and i dont have cruise control or a horn. any ideas?

That combination of symptoms suggests something wrong in the vicinity of the spiral cable (in the upper steering column).

damn that just sounds expensive. i guess the search is on. would that cause all three of those to fail though?

Yep - spiral cable = 'clock spring' (so-called because of the spiral wiring). It's what keeps your upper steering column electrical controls (and the airbag) connected while the wheel is turning from side to side.

most likely the clock spring man.
have you had your steering disconnected? its a fairly easy fix just 1disconnect the battery,
    2 wait a while,
3 remove the steering wheel and airbag,
4 then the yellow and black circle thing(clockspring/spiral cable),
5 then install in reverse order.
    its not cheap, roughly 300bucks

I just had my airbag light come on a week ago. Had the dealer check it with there computer. Clock spring needs to be replaced. Clock spring is around $375.00 and labor is right around $100.00

gorillasrus- thats exactly what I did, got mine for 50 but had to drive to oregon to get it.

Marshbuster- you should save yourself the c note and rent a steering wheel puller from autozone and do it
yourself. I dont think they even charged me to use the tools. The job takes an hour at the most. most of the time was after I pulled the battery cause I wanted to make damn sure the charge to the air bag was gone.

I'm gonna have to look into this....had my rack bushings replaced and shaft slip joint tack welded to get rid of that clunk, but that was a while back. Weird it just now went out.

Did a new rack last week and didn't know about this so called "clockspring" and apparently the wheel turned at somepoint, and it snapped while I was driving. So now I have an airbag light on, no CC, and a horn that only works when I don't really need it to lol.
Wish I could find it for that cheap!!!
    Nice Link for the DIY!

Just ordered up my clock spring (or "spiral cable" as Toyota calls it) due to the fact that cruise control stopped working, airbag light came on, and horn stopped working. Got it from the dealer at my cost for $221.58! Damn, these things aren't cheap!
