Im looking at buying some black rockcrawler rims, and have read that others have had to grind a little on thier calipers with 4.5" backspacing. Will getting 4" backspacing hurt the coponents?

The Back spacing has nothing to do with rubbing the calipers. It's the design of the rims you have.

Some rims just don't have enough clearance for the Toyota calipers. 4.5" BS is the ideal!

You need to look into a different brand of wheel.

That would put the wheels out farther by 1/2"

If they're not rubbing the calipers, then you shouldn't have anything else to worry about.

I have BlackRockcrawler rims w/ 4" backspacing on my jeep - and there's nothing special about them in terms of design and can't imagine they'd be a problem. But - I don't know first hand (on a tacoma that is).

What wheels are you getting? You should make another post about the exact wheels you wanna buy and find out what everyone else is getting (in BS) and if anything esle has experienced problems.

And lastly - try to make some phone calls to your local accessories shops. Maybe they'll let you buy/borrow a single wheel with that configuration and you could try it on and see how things fit.
