Funny read. I agree 100% on the light thing. I don't buy strobes. And I don't buy a knife unless it's plain edge.

One thing I'll add is recurve blades. What does a recurve folder do except make it impossible to sharpen on a stone?

And I'll disagree on the tacpens, but only for flights. Airlines let them right through and they're comforting to have when you can't carry a knife of any type.

Ahh not a whole lot but I should take advantage of it. I want to use one of them for the diff breather mod but the others just hold a roll of plastic bags, a bike chain/lock, and some straps. How sick would it be to somehow line them and use them for extra fuel storage. I know it's not much space but should easily equate to a gallon or two!:drevil:

I am in schoold for a degree in disaster and emergency management and the more I learn about the govenments policies and the historical reactions of the public, the more I am convinced that I need the ability and knowledge to survive at least the first 72 hours (situation dependant). All the gear is pretty cool, but without the knowledge to use it, its a big waste of money. I really appreciate that I'm not the only one that thinks along these lines, my girl is even getting into it.
my ultimate job is to work for FEMA, and I know they get flamed for everything under the sun, but I feel their mission is a needed one when the situation dictates.

    or on the toilet

see if your phone has the kindle app. Its easier to read a book when its on your phone since most peoples phones are always with them. Kindle books are cheaper than hardback copies too.

Just download the app. then go to Amazon to DL the books and your phone will sync up with it wirelessly.

Ok, I just read this entire thread in one sitting. I have always carried basic gear in my truck for just about anything that would come up. I had to laugh at the earlier posts because I can't tell you how many times I have faced situations when out with my friends and said, "if I only had my truck (insert about anything you might need) is in the toolbox" Thank you all helping me find a cohesive strategy for streamlining my kit.

Also glad to hear there are people who are as crazy about flashlights as I am! Next project, BOB assembly! I can already see this thread is going to cost me some $$$

    Keep up the great discussion!
