Funny you mention wind, cause we are having the fiercest wind storm here in central Cali I have ever seen. Thats why my cable is out again. But, no, we do not usually get this wind, no snow here either. Around here its direct TV or dish network. I might check into direct, here most people like them, but not cheap once your 2yr start up expires.

DirecTV normally has better deals than cable, normally ... and I am not a fan of DISH.

I had DTV for years and loved it ... with COMCAST now (long story) and have great high speed internet and low prices for the first year.

EDIT: Best deals on DirecTV & DISH are at Sam's & COSTCO (great incentives there, including big discounts and/or large cash cards)

I've had Direct tv for 15+ years and love the tv service. Not the customer service though. As long as you don't have a boat load of trees it works fine. Mine does go out if it storms really hard but it is never out more than 5 minutes or so. And most of the time that is just the hd channels. The hd is harder to pick up the signal so when it go out most of the time I can just switch to the sd channels. Thing is when I had cable, it would go out when it stormed but would be out for a day or two until the cable co. made it out to fix it. The sat. comes back as the storm levels off or clears up. And my picture quality is superior. Looks as good as my Blu Ray. It's not cheap though.

Oh, I can't say about any snow though since I live in GA. Did have a good snow last winter for us anyway, about 8 inches. Satellite never went out.

The'll give a new customer a great deal on equipment to sign up, it's when you renew, that's when they try to stick it to you. That is my big argument with them. A new customer can get a great deal while a loyal customer like me gets the shaft. But I've learned it takes arguing till I'm blue in the face and threatening to switch to Dish to get a comparable deal.

... ^^^ ... this is what I do too ... even changed names on acct. ( me to wife & back) to keep low (1st year's price) cable price.:D

ALL of them (satellite & cable) have lost a lot of customers to antenna, Netflix, Hulu and etc. and are willing to really deal now.

With COMCAST, you have to haggle every 6 to 12 months (with no contract).

I have Dish Network and my only complaint is when a storm comes in or I fart loud then the signal goes out for a little bit.

I work for Dish as an installer, 8 years. I've had Directv as well for some time. We are the cheapest and have HD free for life. Dtv is good but high trouble call fees. Every satellite can and will go out. But if tuned to maximum with no obstructions, this should cut short outages. Cable tv is satellite, its just broadcast down the powerlines. Hope this helps. :)
