Lift limited by job....

This really bites... This is the longest that I have owned a vehicle, and not modified it. I have been thinking about lifting my 09 Tacoma, and today at work put a damper on it once again.
I work in the DC area, and had to go down to the parking garage today to move a vehicle. Now I am 6'4", and as I was walking to the vehicle, I almost got taken out by a fire sprinkler in the drive lane......Seriously!???!!! My first thought was how much damage that would do to my roof. I need a raise so I can afford to park on the street.

 

What really blows it that you live somewhere that you have to pay so much (or pay at all) for parking that you need a raise...

 

My job pays for the parking garage, but I would have to pay if I parked on the street, and that is not garaunteed that I would find a spot near the office, unless I got there at 5-6 in the morning....

 

I actually thought of just a leveling kit for right now, just to give it a little bit of height.

 

So slam it instead of lifting it.

 

Take the Metro?

 

I hated DC when I drove up there for work every week... 6" lift and CB antenna. Couldn't park in any parking deck. Goging to Tyson's sucked... only had that top level and the outside ramp

 

Guess you can't lift .

Went through the same thing except the garage I park in is a little taller. I was able to get a 2" lift and I barely clear with the mid-rise shell. The lowest concrete web I only clear by about 1" when unloaded and the antennea hits every one as I drive through.

 

You need to get your damn priorities straight OP.

I added a 3" lift to my truck and i clear the garages just fine.

 

Maybe have them raise the sprinkler if they can some how??? Tell em you cant get to work if they dont!

 

Sounds simple but I highly doubt they'll raise a sprinkler line to allow a lifted truck. It is expensive to move sprinkler lines in commercial buildings, it requires the Fire Dept. to be notified, drain the system, move the line then re-pressurize. I'm guessing the reason there is a sprinkler system in the garage to begin with is because it's underground, below the building so head room might be extremely limited.

 

Good gravy. My parking garage feels low but I've seen some damn-near monster trucks in there. Must be insanely low!

 

Pay somebody with a big vehicle to drive into the garage and tear the sprinkler out, that'll make them reconsider the height

 

I'm sure your DC garages are the same as my Philly ones and I never had an issue with bigger tires and a lift. My only issue was CB antennas hitting. I don;t even pay attention to the radio antenna hitting anymore - I just smirk as I nail it against the sprinklers

 

there's parking garages here where I can touch the ceiling and have 7' warnings....
one of the reasons I left my truck at home

 

There's probably a headache bar at the entrance that's lower than that sprinkler line, at least there should be. If someone hits that, keeps going, the only lesson learned will be by the driver who sets off a sprinkler system in the garage and their insurance hands them the bill for being an idiot. One of the joys of lifting your truck, you have to pay attention to head heights in parking garages.

 

If I go into work an hour and a half earlier, and work for free during that time, I can park on the first level. I saw a Ford F-150 Raptor in there this morning. I'm going to measure the heights where I drive in and out. I want a 3" lift, so i'll just do the math.
