im looking at a bull bar on craigslist, the price looks ok but the seller says he coated it in herculiner, he says it is chrome under the hurculiner, i would like to have chrome to match my step bars, ive read that brake fluid or aircraft stripper and a putty knife could remove the hurculiner but witl those chemicals damage the chrome under the hurculiner?

I used angle grinder but mine was bare steel under the liner. I think once that stuff dries its pretty permanent

I would bet the chrome will be less then satisfactory once you remove the coating. I'm sure it was scuffed up prior to being painted. Be prepared to send them out to be re-chromed.

well the seller dropped his price to only 30 bucks so i picked it up, i figure if i cant get the herculiner off or the chrome looks like crap under it ill rattle can it black and resell it. he told me its only a year old and he hurculined it when it was new, so i guess if the stuff comes off the chrome should be in new condition.

can anybody say for sure yes or no if aircraft stripper will hurt the chrome?

Agreed. Bedliner is intended to be permanent and it if was applied correctly, he probably scuffed up the chrome to make it stick or it was rusted and he sanded it off and covered it to stop the rust. If someones intentions are to bedliner something, they'll usually buy the black painted version because it's cheaper and is easier to paint over. I'm guessing there was a reason he Hurculined it and you're better off leaving it alone.
