half a house? not sure how you can have half a house, and working taco....i believe i read a lot of posts stating otherwise :) lol.

but we are all in different situations. and believe me scott, i have plenty of money for the truck, but it has to be spent right, like the bumper for example, wheni was rear ended i got 1200 from ins. there is my front bumper right there. but i cant get one right now, not the al bumper i want. so i wait :(

Haha, true. Although my property tax is on the high end for PA, pay around 4-5k/year.

    hmmm
    .01 %
    New York
Taxes paid by residents as pct. of income: 12.1%
Total state and local taxes collected: $243.9 billion
Pct. of total taxes paid by residents: 71.4%
Pct. of total taxes paid by non-residents: 28.6%

New York places much of its tax burden on residents from other states. Consider, for example, the amount of state revenue derived from New York City tourism, or those who commute to the city for work. Despite this, state residents maintain the second largest tax burden in the country. The state has one of the highest state and local tax collections per capita, an average of $6,884. It has one of the highest combined averages local and state sales tax rates — 8.3%. The Big Apple also has a number of exceptionally high excise taxes, such as its $4.35 tax on each pack of cigarettes, the highest rate in the country. Additionally, the state has exceptionally high property tax rates. According to the Census Bureau, the top ten counties in the U.S. with the highest property taxes as a percentage of home values are all in New York.

    1. New Jersey
Taxes paid by residents as pct. of income: 12.2%
Total state and local taxes collected: $85.9 billion
Pct. of total taxes paid by residents: 79.5%
Pct. of total taxes paid by non-residents: 20.5%

New Jersey residents have a higher tax burden than those of any other state. As a percent of their income, taxes in the Garden State were 12.2% in 2009, nearly double that of Alaska. Like Connecticut, much of this tax burden comes from state residents who commute to New York City and pay taxes there as well. This illustrates how a state resident contributes to the tax base of multiple states. Although not reflected in the percent of income residents pay in state and local taxes, it is nonetheless an additional burden commuters have to bear. According to Tax Foundation, the state has the third-worst environment for business in the country, with a corporate tax rate of 9%. It also has an above-average sales tax, as well as one of the highest rates in the country for cigarettes and liquor.

Who Pays America's Highest Property Taxes?

    Forbes.com staff, 01.23.09, 02:00 PM EST
With the highest annual levies, these 25 counties eat up homeowners' incomes the most.

[IMG] In Depth: Who Pays America's Highest Property Taxes?

Behind the manicured shrubs and stately single-family homes lining the streets of Garden City, N.Y., a 21,672-person town about 20 miles east of Manhattan, lies a harsh truth--high property taxes.
Nassau County homeowners pay a median $8,153--or 8% of their yearly income--to live there. It's the fourth-highest rate in the country.

Those living in Little Falls, N.J., should be so lucky. Property taxes in Passaic County, which includes Little Falls, eat up 8.5% of homeowner median incomes. In fact, Passaic property taxes are the highest in the nation. Rounding out the top five: Union County, N.J. (8.1%), Essex County, N.J. (8.1%), and Westchester County, N.Y. (7.8%).
In Depth: America's 25 Highest Property Taxes

Besides boasting the nation's five highest property tax rates, all are New York City bedroom communities. This is not a coincidence. Mid-Atlantic and New England states have traditionally been most reliant on property taxes because they have strong, local governments that are able to levy property taxes to pay for their independent municipal needs.
"The key in New Jersey especially," says David Brunori, a professor of public policy at George Washington University, "is that local governments don't have a lot of options in terms of revenues. There is no local-option sales tax, no local-option income tax."

Looking at the figures by county, Nassau County experienced the smallest decline with a January closed median home price of $440,000, 2.2 percent less than a year ago when it was reported at $450,000
